Meeting at the Border

I am planning to meet up with a friend of mine who has a place in the ROC. We intend to meet up in Lefkosa and I will then show him and his wife around some of the TRNC. They intend to park up and walk across to meet me. Would it be easier for them to meet me at Ledra Street or Metehan bearing in mind the need for them to find somewhere to park for the day? Also, am I correct in believing that Metehan is called Ayos Demetrios over that side?

Personally, I would go for the Ledra Street crossing - there are convenient car parks at both sides, and you're then in the middle of Nicosia, and you've got something to show them.

At Metehan you're in the middle of nowhere!

Personally we would use the Ledra Palace Hotel crossing point....easy to park up both sides, not busy and there is a sense of history and quietness with the 70mtr walk past the hotel from one side to another....yes its a short stroll either way to get into the centre of town but it gives a good introduction. Alternatively cross at the main pedestrian crossing in the centre of town and your right in amongst the shops on both sides - but ca be pretty busy and at times a scrum at the police posts.

Metehan - As has been mentioned - middle of nowhere and soulless!

opposite the old Ledra Palace Hotel (ah the stories that oculd tell of its glorious past!) is now The Home of Co-operation which has a suiper little coffee bar n it and cakes to die for. Why not meet there and savour being in between two worlds?

We also like taking friends across at Ledra Palace because of its "sense of history" (quoted from PoshinDevon's post), but seeing as Twaddle is (I presume) intending to pick up his friends and then "show then around some of TRNC" I think Metehan might be the best choice. It all depends if Twaddle is taking them by car or walking with them. In any case, the GCs call Metehan "Ayios Demetios".

We met friends from the South on Monday & they came across at Ledra Palace. As one of our friends walks with a stick, they parked a little way from the border their side & got a taxi. The taxi driver then asked the border guards if he could drive them right up to the Turkish border to save them the walk & we couldnt believe it when they got out of the car right by the gate our side. We had parked right by the border, so easy all round.
