As Part of our research into a possible move from Didim, Turkey to TRNC may I please seek advice from anyone doing similar in the last couple of years:
Did you bring furniture and was it worth it financially and hassle-wise? Any recommendations for shippers if it may be worthwhile?
We moved to Turkey some years ago with just personal items and I'd prefer overall to keep some large furniture items.
Many thanks in advance for any advice/experiences.

Re: Turkey to TRNC removal
We moved from Fethiye a year and a half ago. We didn't bring any furniture, just lots of 'stuff'. Couldn't find a shipper who would do it so we sent it all by MNG cargo. No problems at all with that, it was all delivered to the Gumruk at Lefkoşa and they were happy for it to stay there while we found somewhere to live. Hardly cost anything for storage and at least we knew it was safe.
By the way, we think it was the best move we ever made. Had been in TR for twelve years so have seen things there change....a lot!

Re: Turkey to TRNC removal
I can't offer any help regarding the move, as we just got rid of most of our stuff and brought the remainder over on the plane as excess luggage, but we also moved here from Didim over two years ago, we are in Altinkum next week for a holiday, and to catch up with friends, if you want to meet up to have a chat then let me know. Initially, it was abit of a shock when we first arrived as we hadn't visited the island before, the move was a knee jerk reaction from the residency changes a couple of years ago, but now I must say, as much as we still love Turkey, and the beauty of the place, and the shopping malls, I can say I have found my forever home. Life is easier here, lot's of support if you need it, everyone seem's to speak English, no need for that compulsory translator where ever you go. Good luck with your move, hope all goes well.

Re: Turkey to TRNC removal
Moved from Turkey just over 1 year ago and found the life here much easier, a number of others from our area of Turkey have followed us or are in the process of moving here.
We left all the furniture as we could not find a shipping company interested in part containers.
For all the household stuff, kitchen, bedding and clothes we used Aras Kargo, very cheap and reliable, that also sell boxes and deliver door to door. Our friends also used Aras Kargo, weights up to 100 Kg no problem.
Dont put all your electrical equip in one box or customs may charge for it, all valuables such as computers we put in our flight cases.
Good Luck with your move

Re: Turkey to TRNC removal
Many thanks, folks, for the valuable info so far.....did you all do the sensible thing and rent for a period first, or just dive in at the deep end? Do any of you manage without a car/motorcycle or should we factor that in?
We're over again to TRNC in late September, but would welcome a chance to pick someone's brain beforehand....so yes please, Suecheshire, if you can spare an hour or so sometime during your holiday, do let us know where and when. (lizziebob123@gmail.com)
Thanks again, everyone.

Hi no problem, I will email you and we can catch up, no worries. We did rent initially, though the rents can be expensive here compared to Turkey, but definitely rent first, as there are a lot of hotels going up, and what is maybe now a peaceful area, could end something completely different in 12 months time, this has happened to a few of our friends. We did buy after only two months as an absolute bargain of a house had our name on it was for sale, and as we are in an established village, Esentepe, not much is likely to change. I would say transport is essential. We hoped to get around using public transport initially, then soon realised the transport system is rubbish compared to Turkey. I will email you with details of where and when. Sue.
