Re: Help on posting links
These instructions are for a 'Windows' PC, using a standard keyboard and Mouse.
Open a fresh 'Tab' or new Browser window, and navigate to the page to which you want to paste a 'Link'.
'Left Click' in the URL / Search bar at the top of your browser, and the entire address line will be highlighted.
CTRL-C (that means hold down the Ctrl key - bottom left on your keyboard, and then press and release the 'letter C key', then let go of the Ctrl key). That will copy the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) or 'Address' to your clipboard.
Now go to the Tab or Window displaying the Forum, and do whatever you need to do to start making a post (either a reply, quote or new thread - whatever). When you reach the part of your message where you want to insert the link, click on the URL key, above where you are typing, and you will see the letters URL and /URL enclosed in square brackets, with the flashing text cursor between the two central square brackets (if it isn't between the brackets, then click between the brackets to make sure that it is!).
Then CTRL-V (same as CTRL-C, except that you press the letter V key on your keyboard) - this will then paste the contents of your clipboard (the Link address or URL) into the space between the central square brackets.
You can get a bit more fancy than that, for instance here is a standard 'Link': -
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news ...
... and here is an 'advanced' link: -
BBC News
The second type is achieved by putting a '=' sign after the first 'URL' but still inside of the first set of square brackets, and using 'Ctrl-V' after the '=' character, and then typing the description (in this case 'BBC News') in the space between the central pair of square brackets.
If you click on 'Quote' after reading all of this, you will see displayed in the text box, just what I mean...
You could even display a 'picture' or 'graphic' as your link if you wanted to, by inserting the 'img' tags from the bar above your text BETWEEN the central square brackets, and then putting a URL which points to the image between the 'Img' tags: -
...
Again, you will see how it looks in 'edit mode' if you click on 'Quote'
It is as well to use the Preview function before clicking 'Submit', because it's very easy to make a mistake, and computers are notoriously 'finicky' if you get a single character out of place!
Good luck.

Re: Help on posting links
Thanks Keith,
In line 2, where you said, 'Open a fresh 'Tab' or new Browser window, and navigate to the page to which you want to paste a 'Link', did you mean, 'navigate to the page where the link to be copied is'?
In the post, 'RBL Pantomime is back', I was trying to post the menu at the Bellapais Garden Restaurant, but using your instructions (I think) all I get is this:
file:///C:/Users/user/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/Content.Outlook/IT2AAV6M/Special%20Pantomime%20%20Dinner%20Menü%20%20.pdf

Add your PDF file as an attachment use upload attachment at bottom like this sample (must be under 500kb in size) - - - - - -
OR upload the menu as a picture file JPG ect and upload it the same.
Keep trying you'll get it in the end and preview (preview button along bottom) what you post first that way you'll now if the link is working and can correct any mistakes.

Re: Help on posting links
I copy and paste using my p.c and mouse, a simpler way
left click on the url to highlight, keeping your mouse there right click on your mouse a window will pop up with options select copy.
go to the page where you want to post it, right click again and select paste

Re: Help on posting links
I think that the difficulty might be that Papabravo asked how to 'post a Link/URL' when what he wanted to do was upload a file from his computer to the forum...

Re: Help on posting links
To summarise - if you want to direct someone to a specific website/web page, you need to copy and paste the exact URL (address) as it appears in the address bar at the top of the page in your post. Readers can then copy that and paste in their browser.
If you want to make it possible for them to simply click on something to go to that site/page, you need to create a link as described by Keith.
If you want to put a picture (image) on the forum, again, as Keith describes.
If you want to make a file (of any kind) available for others to download, you have to put it on the internet somewhere - your webspace as provided by your internet provider, or photo/file hosting sites (Google them); make a note of the file's specific internet address/URL - and once again, follow Keith's instructions re links. It's not possible to provide a "link" to a file that is only on your computer.....
To demonstrate, this -
C:\Users\fred\Documents\Cyprus Misc\Electricity Info\tarifeler.jpg
- is the "address" (location) on my computer of a file showing Kibtek tariffs - try copying/pasting in your browser (or (try to) click on it!).......
And this is the same file on my websapce - http://w_b_rowntree.madasafish.com/tarifeler.jpg] is a link that you can click on.....
Note that the actual file name (tarifeler.jpg) is the same in both instances....

Re: Help on posting links
Before anyone gets the URL that they have pasted into their post removed, please remember that it is not good form to paste the URL of a company or business that should/could be paying for advertising space on the forum website! The forum, like many newspapers has to have income from advertising to support it's continued existence. Just a thought!
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.
