Green arrow next to topic

Can someone tell me why a big green arrow appears next to the thread "Tanners Terrace". It indicates to me(on my laptop) that someone has responded with a new reply because there is a red box highlighted, but no one has, it still shows as Bigbadbob being the last one to respond.

Just irritating to me

Because the thread is actually no longer in the general section; the arrow indicates a link/redirection to the section where it now resides (restaurants) - once you've clicked on to read the post(s), scroll up the page and you'll see you're now in the restaurants section....
(the arrow fooled me first time I came across it on some other thread... )

Thanks jofra, I didn't realise what this was for, just never noticed(or took notice)before.
