USB Battery

The above has finally bitten the dust after 5 years. Any idea where I can take it to be "legally" disposed of (hopefully). I know its dead for sure because its leaked and eaten away at the shelf!!. I also need advice please. I would like its replacement to be able to allow for about 10 minutes of work and saving in the event of a power failure. I assume I just walk into one of the computer shops,. but I'll probably be blinded with science. Thanks

UPS? - (Uninterruptible Power Supply)

Just take the old one into Laconic or any computer shop, they all stock 'em...

<edit>... I've just realised, you don't mean that you want the battery, do you? - You want the complete Power Supply!

Keith, now you have totally confused me. I thought it came as one whole gubbins, I wasn't aware you could remove and replace. Its the only one I've had. All I know its stopped working and leaking through a little gap in the side, thereby melting/dissolving the shelf!!

Sophie, don't worry about it.

If you're talking about the box that plugs into the mains, and keeps the computer working for a while in the event of a power cut, it's a 'UPS'.

If the internal battery has leaked all over the inner workings, then I would advise you to get another, just pop it along to Laconic (in a plastic bag ) and they'll happily sell you one.

Your only issue might be if it has 'Continental' 2 pin connectors instead of the usual Computer mains leads (the sort that people sometimes call 'kettle leads'), so you might need to ask them to make you up some adaptors or extensions, so that it will just connect back up simply.

... and for your shelf...
if it is acid from the battery, i suggest to neutralise it with some baking soda (no baking powder) on it and wash well with water.

UBS ,UPS, U2 all the same to me as you can imagine. Yes it has two pins at the end of the cable, which for five years has then been stuck into 2pin to 3 pin plug and then into the wall socket. Seems to have worked OK. Oh yes, I'm sure Laconic will be delighted to sell me a new one!! I'll probably go to ComAks though, the lovely lady owner makes super Turkish coffee.

Tektan in Girne have a bin for old batteries just inside their doorway.
