Plumbing parts

Having spent a pleasant hour trying to fix the plastic parts in our toilet cistern without success, was wondering if the Yapi markets might sell said cistern bits. I was thinking of removing the defective part from cistern and taking it down to a Yapi market to see if they could supply a replacement.

Dont want to buy a new toilet!

Anyone any suggestions?

Çoban supplied bits for our cistern(s) when needed. Complete inlet pipe and ball valve/cock and the plastic bit for the ar.e washer thingy. Cheaper than other yapi shops too.

Most Yapi Markets sell complete or partial Cistern guts. There is no need normally to buy a new cistern .

Is it a piston type push button cistern incert
I bought the set on Sunday yapi market by china bazzar (town side )
the old piston tower turned out of the base new one flitted in by replacing the old one
All can say it was a plug and play
I am a fully qualified mechanical incompetent and have many expensive workmens rectifying bills to prove it so it must be easy
If its the flap type leave it to a plumber as you have to re seat the cistern on the doughnut but replace the flap type with a piston type which allows you to replace yourself and lasts longer

All yap I markets sell them. About 40TL. Job is simple will take about 20 mins

Now my question,I have flapper type flushing systems,is it possible (and easy) to change these to siphon systems?

I've seen a plumber do it, but would be reluctant to attempt it myself. If all goes to plan and nothing goes wrong - or breaks - then you could be lucky...

The flapper type can work perfectly well, but it is a good idea every so often to flush cistern, close the check valve and apply some limescale remover and around the rubber flange. It is normally limescale that stops them seating properly. But if you need a new flapper , they are something ridiculously cheap,and take about 30 seconds to fit.

Also whilst you are doing it put limescale remover around the entire cistern guts.

Went to a couple of Yapi shops.....found the bit needed, in fact got both the plunger mechanism and the water shut off mechanism. Price 17TL. Got home and fitted the water shut off mechanism in 5mins. Checked and all working. Kept the plunger mechanism. Just in case!

All done without subjecting the bathroom to flooding, which given my plumbing track record was an achievement in itself. Easy to dismantle old defective part and fit new even for the diy incompetent.

Regarding the flapper type cistern unit.
From day one, I filled the flapper with water,
then sealed it with silicon.
Gives it a bit of added weight.
If rubber seal builds up with limescale,
take it off and give it a quick scrub, then replace it, right way down!
No drips, no outside pump constantly clicking on/off
Also, if you have some pH- , mix app 1 tablespoon into a plastic bottle,
and pour into your water tank, slows down/cleans limescale build up.
If rubber seal is damaged, was 10Tl last time I had to replace flapper & seal @ Yapi.
Only had to replace 1 in 9 years.
