A shop really worth visiting

I've been promising myself for a couple of months that I would go into the new Fresh Fish shop in Alsancak which used to be the Pork Shop. I'm so glad I did because we are so lucky to have it close to use in Alsancak. Its spotlessly clean, large stainless steel sinks and high pressure taps for cleaning and filleting, comfortable chairs, a turkish coffee machine and newspapers and no overpowering fishy smell.

There is plenty of FRESH fish which is shipped in from Istanbul and Izmir, packed in ice but not frozen (although there is frozen available if you prefer.) Th two young men working there are enthusiastic and very helpful, I chose my two Sea Bass, was asked how I would like it prepared. I selected totally cleaned and cut so I could serve it butterfly fashion. It was the cleanest and best prepared fish I have seen for a long time. The cost for all this, less than 20tl. He remarked that 80% of his customers were either British or Russian. I asked about locals and he said "People here, they eat, meat, meat, and more meat"

Do give it a try, I don't think you will be disappointed. I'll be having their fresh salmon steaks next I think!!

On the opposite side of the road, to the left of Starling as you face it.

Thank you for that,. Will definitely try it when next on that side. Usually buy fish from the counter at Supreme but sadly it seems to have lost its edge.

Had to convince them to stop dumping ice in front of their shop and move the waste bin away because of the terrible fish stench spreading around. Other than that - wishing them all the best, hope they succeed.

Which place are you referring to? - The new fish shop in Catalkoy, or the one in Alsancak?
