Girne Eastern Bypass Route?
I'm interested to know quite where the new bypass is going to run. If this new road is to run from the Lefkosa interchange to Accapulco junction, I'm at a loss to see how it will work. The existing coast road will need to service the existing shops and businesses, so I presume somewhere inland of the existing coast road?......Is there a definitive map out there for us to view.?

Re: Girne Eastern Bypass Route?
There is no definite route yet but there is a strong possibility that from the East it will start at Erdener where there will be a roundabout.

Yes. From Lefkosa interchange through/round Dogankoy then through lower Ozankoy (Via olive groves / farm land) coming out opposite china bazaar.

Re: Girne Eastern Bypass Route?
From what I have read, I think that the arrangement will be the same as the Western bypass, with feeder roads coming off at various points to villages and shopping destinations, with the main route being from the existing Girne/Lefkosa road junction across to the Acapulco junction - which is possibly also going to join up with the projected tunnel through the Girne mountain range (although I wouldn't hold your breath on that one!). It is said that several overpasses or flyovers are to be incorporated, but I've not seen any actual plans or drawings as yet...

Whilst no one really knows and no plans to view, we were also told the above. Dual carriageay round Doganky, lower Ozankoy down to a junction near China Bazaar and the current Erdener supermarket. Erdener have already built and nearing completion a bigger building behind the current supermarket. This dual carriageway would presumeably take non Girne traffic wanting to head east out of the busy town area. Not sure if there will be upgrade, improvements or dual carriageway from Erdener along the existing road to Acapulco. However a lot of new builds in last few years along this road are set back so maybe there is scope to widen.silverfox1 wrote:Yes. Thanks for confirming exactly what I had already stated and I am guessing it must now be true as it has been qualified by a Mod....lol.

Re: Girne Eastern Bypass Route?
If you look at the Sat version of Google earth and make a guess - the only clear path through from the main road to Lefcosia is across the back of Bellapais? Now that would be fun given the amount of ravines to block up before a road could go that way. Any route going past Dogankoy and via Ozankoy is going to cost loads of dosh in payments for houses to be removed for sure and how they would fit a dual carriageway between the new Erdener shop and the new row's of empty shops (on the right heading towards the Esentepe turn off is way beyond me. Even if they put in a new roundabout there it would be a tight fit. It is interesting to try to figure out where the new by pass would go and by the time they figure it out and then start to build it, they might as well start at the Esentepe turning anyway! Maybe if Trump wins he can get the Mexicans to pay for it - lol.

I am not sure that for the properties affected when building the western bypass compensation was actually paid - does anyone know for sure?

I said no one really knows but we had heard the same as you.
It could be right, could be wrong, may happen or may not happen.
We will all, have to wait and see how things develop and I am sure that things will change or may not even happen. This is North Cyprus.

I'm guessing that they could come off of the small roundabout just up from the Bellapais traffic lights (near where they are busy building yet more 10 storey blocks of flats, each new one blocking the view and sunlight of the other ones). There is reasonably clear ground from that roundabout, south towards and can meet up with the Girne to Lefkosia dual carriageway.

if you would not have added "this is north cyprus", it sounds as you did post in the wrong topic, talking about brexit.

Re: Girne Eastern Bypass Route?
If you go onto Google Maps then change it to Satellite view and look at the area available, it becomes very interesting as to just where an Eastern By-Pass could be fitted in. Use the 3D function along with Ctrl+Mouse control and it makes it even more interesting. Not being an Engineer (well not of this type of thing anyway) I have no idea of how difficult it would be to span ravines whilst still allowing the normal water flow to occur but it seems that any By-Pass should go to the South of Bellapais and come out as far down the coast towards the Esentepe turn off as possible - this would also pave a way for the mythical "Tunnel" so that work would not have to be done twice - fat chance then, lol. I was in the South when they built the Limassol to Paphos motorway and they faced similar problems going through/around the Troodos foothills - no problems there so why should there be here? Sorry, stupid question.
To my mind it would make complete sense to put the Eastern by-pass halfway up on the mountain range and just wind it through all the folds in the mountains before it eventually passed through the "Tunnel" in a thinner part of the mountains.
Whatever they do it will be fun to try to figure out why and how before they do it and without a doubt it will be too little too late as normal with no real thought to the future - hey ho, higgildy piggildy land rules!! Oh yes, join the new one to the main Girne/Lefcosia road but not at the new interchange - look further up the hill and joint it in to one of the first bends - simple.

Re: Girne Eastern Bypass Route?
I think putting the road above Bellapais would add to the views and atract tourists
I see what you mean about connecting at the first bend on the Lefkosa Road
Only problem its the military base between Bellapais and the Lefkosa Road
Somehow I think it will mean years covered inn dust for those within a mile of the route
Oh that's the East side in a dust cloud

Re: Girne Eastern Bypass Route?
I think the latest post are in fantasy land and a load of logistical tosh as there is no way and no money that will build a dual carriageway bypass over ravines and along the side of the mountains not even for a good view !!
It will be as previously stated....down to Ozankoy and along the existing road but duelled.

sf 1
I was being ironic sarcastic
It would be disaster to put it anywhere other than duelling the coast
Or they could go for a sea road on stilts like the Florida keys only kidding
Why don't the papers get a copy of the map?

silverfox1, on the off chance that you will venture out of the past where nothing was possible into the present where anything is possible, have a quick look at this: https://www.jandp-group.com/easyconsole ... ct/p_id/18 finished in 2006, it is just another project that many said could never happen and would never be completed. Oh yes, it is in Cyprus as well and was paid for by EU funding, the same funding that the TRNC can apply for by the way.
Of course if you want the new road to go through Ozankoy and end up outside the Erdener market, where in 5 years time it will be of no use whatsoever and become an inner city ring road, then go for it. I do hope that all the people that live in all the houses that will certainly have to be demolished to make way for the new road will agree with you.
Don't think about what would cure today's problem, rather think about what are the problems that will be faced in 20 years time - and put in preventative actions now. With luck if you start at Esentepe with the new Eastern By-Pass, by the time it is completed it will be able to cope with the city centre traffice lol.

Waddo; Don't worry about the existing houses etc. as in 5 years time we will all be living in 20 storey skyscrapers in the middle of Girne and in 50 years time we will all be living on the Moon and Mars!!!!!
