Good for them - 1 GBP = 3.87937 TRY I see it has had an impact already! Is this a clear indication of what the rest of the financial market really wants? Every other currency seems to be going the same way as well so its not just the TL!

ard, democracy is just a tool for the rich to get richer at the expense of the peasants who are given a false hope voice. Which recent political party in government actually achieved anything for the average person - veteran, homeless, infirmed, aged, the list goes on.

Even if the government lose their appeal in December i cannot see parliament voting against the will of the people.

People in Parliament, and the government for that matter don't care about the people. All they're concerned about is the next promotion, or their next fat cheque. There is no such thing as democracy.

True democracy will only ever exist when each and every person can vote on each and every item - and then democracy will be best described as (to quote L. Long?) - "My God! How did we get in this mess?".....

As referendum's in the UK are not legally binding and simply there to give the ruling Government an idea of how the people feel about what it is the Government is proposing to do/or has done. Democracy is a means for the people to choose their leaders and to hold their leaders accountable for their policies and their conduct in office. So can you say that the "Brexit" referendum was actually a democratic vote? The Government can call for a referendum on anything but imagine if it called for a referendum on "Income Tax" - should the people pay tax or not pay tax? Given the amount of information the Brexit referendum was provided I would suggest that 99% of the people would say "No more Income Tax" without even a thought to the outcome of that vote. Of course the Government can just ignore that 99% vote and carry on as normal - the same is true of the Brexit vote. When it boils down to it - the Government - democratically voted into power - will do whatever it feels like, providing it is not breaking the law. In the case of the Article 50 issue, it seems that now it must appeal to the courts again and if the outcome remains the same and the MP's in parliament vote against Brexit then that is that - unless the Government ceases to be democratic and becomes dictatorial! Interesting times indeed.

we do have many different democracies in this world... and all of them are a "negotiated compromise".
see eg, the US, India, Germany, the UK.. or.. Europe. or wherever..

if, at least, the Brexit referendum will lead to a "better democracy" in the UK, as eg, a new election system, then this would be a good thing..

Agreed, a new election system that actually represents all the peoples wish's instead of the wish's of a country by area would be a good thing - just what sort of election system would be needed for that and then what would we do with all the people who get paid to sign in, have lunch at tax payers expense and then claim their travel back home again???

well, waddo,
here you have someting to fight for: a negotiation for a better democracy...

maybe you go for a proportional representation... and not that eg, UKIP gets 14% of all votes and is represented by one MP only.

Leaflet sent out to all households at tax payers expense of £9 million
"The referendum on Thursday 23rd June is your chance to DECIDE if we should remain in or leave the European Union. This is YOUR decision. The Government WILL implement what YOU decide."
So they spent £9 million of our money on a big fat LIE.

Brend, the Government say that they want to proceed, but that woman who disputed their right to do so, and the Judges who ruled against it are the ones who's stopping 'em - I don't really think that that constitutes a LIE on the part of the Government...

Always did wonder why they sent the leaflet to all households instead of all registered voters - I am registered but did not get a leaflet here - so they never lied to me - lol. In any case "The Government WILL implement what YOU decide" has not happened yet, but it could, maybe not by this Government or maybe not by the next three or four but one day, one day.................. Unless of course there is an early election and the present Government get voted out then they can say they tried but the people would not let them. Politicians, never trust a word they say!!!
