Re: Turkcell
If it is a payg phone have you topped up the credit in the last 3 months? If not they will stop all calls till you do. If you wait 6 months you lose the number too
As I got older I congratulated myself on my tolerance..... Now I realise I just don't give a "ooops"

Re: Turkcell
My u.k. sim card has just stopped being available for use. I thought it might have been the phone, but I registered the phone months ago to go with the English sim card, and it has been fine up until a couple of days ago. Strangely when I looked at the u.k. sim card in the phone I registered here for it, all the contacts had gone, but in a different phone, all the contact's were still their. What's going on?

Re: Turkcell
Stella, it probably depends on where the 'phone 'expects' to find the contacts!
Have a look in the settings, and if possible, set the 'phone to 'use SIM and phone memory' - then it will be able to see your contacts wherever they are stored
It is possible that the setting has got changed somehow, without you consciously intending to do so.

Re: Turkcell
To cope with the 6 month loss of number problem, has anybody successfully topped up online from UK?

Re: Turkcell
Thank you for all your responses..... interesting.
But you are right, if you buy a buy outside of the TRNC then you have to pay duty on it and service is stopped until you do.
Went to the office today in Nicosia, paid 13 TL to register my phone and tomorrow have to go back again to pay the duty. The duty office shuts at 14.00 and this was 15.00.
The likely charge is going to be around 100 TL for an iPhone 4s.
Then tomorrow at 12.00 midday normal service SHOULD resume

Re: Turkcell
I was told the SIM cards are valid for 10 months. I did try and top up from the UK but you have to do this within 3 months of the last top up, before the phone 'dies' and you need to add credit to reactivate the number

Re: Turkcell
been coming to TRNC for about 14 years now and this is the first time I could not use my UK phone. I had a signal from both Turkcell and Vodaphone but it would not connect.
