This month is ‘International Breast Cancer Awareness Month’ highlighting a disease which is still a long way from being eradicated but emphasising that early diagnosis increases the chances of survival enormously therefore support is needed ever more due to the increasing numbers of MEN and WOMEN who are being diagnosed daily.
Help Those With Cancer Association/Tulips have chosen Saturday, 20th October 2012 as their day in the TRNC to recognise this worldwide campaign in both the Turkish and English speaking communities.
With the full and generous support of both TELSIM and TURKCELL (who will be sending messages to their customers in English and Turkish on Saturday), we are asking for everyone to send a blank SMS message to 4171, this will donate 5TL to the Association – you are allowed to send more than one message if you so wish
Turkcell ‘Pay As You Go’ customers will be unable to do this, unfortunately the Turkcell system does not allow it but you can donate via credit card by going on line http://www.khyd.org (please click on the English flag and you will see a ‘donation’ link).
You may wish to donate more than 5TL then please use your credit card on the above link.
We would like to thank both The Star (Friday 19th) and Cyprus Today (Saturday 20th) who have both supported this project and have written articles in their papers to help ‘encourage’ you all to donate.
This is a first time we have run a project like this in the TRNC so we would like to say a BIG thank you to the companies that are supporting us and to everyone who presses 4171 on Saturday.

I would like to bring this back to the top for today, I know many of you have received a text message today from either Telsim or Turkcell for Tulips (KHYD).
This year, too date, there have been 150 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in the TRNC and these are only the ones the Association knows about, this figure is rising each year.
Please do not think that this disease is a women's disease only - it is not, men are diagnosed with breast cancer as well.
Most of us know of someone who has had cancer; we are asking that when you think of this person could you please find it in your hearts to donate 5TL by sending a blank SMS message to 4171.
