Inane posting

I noticed that there was a minor squabble about acceptable posts /vs moderation over the last few days.
Now I am not for one minute going into the subject matter of the posts, which are are no interest to me personally.
Those posts were closed on the basis of 'There is better info to be had on the subject elsewhere'

OK- so that being the case how come there are lots of posts ,usually computer related,(and some of them really pathetic, which could be answered by pressing the help button )for which the answer could be easier found by just Googling a question rather than posting it on an TRNC specific forum.

Posts along the lines of 'my computer only understands Turkish' can be answered more easily on about a thousand other websites-but they are not closed-Why not given that there are lots of other solutions to be found elsewhere?

I would be grateful of clarification on posting rules as I am becoming confused.

Tin hat at the ready!

this one is for Soner! But the rules are as listed above under forum Rules, and it could be that people want to feel they can share the experience of others and maybe are not too sure form the advice given on 'Help. I know I sometimes find it confusing, and it is so much easier to have it spelled out by someone who knows from experience. But i am but surmising. Dangerous. Maybe Soner can comment on this better than I.

Philoz...perphaps is just human nature or lazyness to ask for help via a forum, rather than google it and have to search thro a number of answers before possibly getting the one you want. For me whilst I like searching the net for information, posing a question on a forum often comes up with great results and just seems an easy option.

Re closing of threads - it is at times a difficult decision, sometimes not always understood but please be re-assured it is done in the best interests of the forum. If a thread is closed the moderators will usually contact the poster and advise reasons why...very occasionally the poster does not like or take on board the feedback and further action is needed. We try our best to be balanced and fair - the moderators do discuss action to be taken and sometimes we also do not all agree on what to do but we accept the final decision.

As far as Kibkom is concerned we want to tray and make it a place where people can feel safe to post, engage in good debate without threat and finally and often importantly amicably agree to disagree.

Being lighthearted and going of thread, how about I use KibKom as a friend on the weakest link. and am allowed to post for an answer, now wouldn't that be good, am sure I would get all questions right, and that Jasmine Court will have wifi, sure I can sneak Ipad in, how many will be waiting to answer for me, I hope loads it is a charity event!!

most would agree with you, except that
not all of us know what question to ask:

for example, a query about the climate
could prompt answers about air conditioners
or mosquitos etc etc

and not everyone is equally clever,
though as albert einstein once remarked,
if you can't explain a theory to a ten-year-old
it is unlikely to be valid

also occasional spats aside, I find most in
north cyprus wise and above all friendly,
not always the case we are led to believe in
the charentes region of france

...though I hope I do no-one an injustice

Oh Barbie dear, dizzy blonde that you are - you are thinking of the wrong show. Phone a friend is part of who Wants to be a Millionaire. The Weakest Link means ho help from anyone - least of all me, who will be the most wired up person in the room. (if it happens that is - looks it might be cancelled.)

Philox: As well as the reasons given in the first two replies, some of us are not very computer literate and some of the websites are not literate in the usual sense of the word. They are often badly designed , very hard to navigate and in my experience give loads of information which takes ages to go through but not the one thing one wants to know! Some of the official sites (particularly Government) only reply to the questions they want you to ask Anything unusual is not catered for. I once spent a whole evening trying to get info from the Post Office (UK) following links which went round is vicious circles and ended up witht he original "virtual assistant" and her set piece of 5 questions. I ended up with a very late night, no further forward and a gibbering wreck and nearly threw the PC straight out of the window.

I am very glad people here are kind enought to share their expertise and experience. If you are not interested, or dont want to help, you dont have to read the thread!
