Technician to check gas heater safety

I have a new portable gas heater which smells of gas.

Can anyone recommend a technician who can come to my house and check it for safety? Ideally west of Girne if possible. Thanks.

If the heater is new and smelling of gas, I would speak to whoever supplied it. If that is not possible, ring Celal at Ersem Trading - 0533 8602754. He will, I'm sure, know somebody who can check it out for you.

Are you sure it is the heater that smells and not just the bottle itself - have had a few smelly bottles over the years and changing the one in use for different one is a good check!

Or the hose to regulator connection is not secure you have to really push it in as far as possible I dip the hose in boiling water first makes it easier then use a jubilee clip to make sure its tight.

I have taken the heater to Ersem--they are going to check it for safety. (I bought the heater a few days ago in China Bazaar, who I don't think have the ability to do any checks. They also fitted the regulator.)

I don't think the problem is the bottle. Smell of gas only emerges when heater is on....but we'll see.

It may be perfectly safe, but I am not used to these rickety machines and did not want to risk it.

we had similar problem and replaced the regulator which solved the issue

Ersem found a fault with the heater itself.

I took it back to China Bazaar. They resisted. I rang Ersem who spoke to man at China Bazaar, who finally relented. He would not give refund, but did replace the heater with another of same model. Not great, but better than nothing. I have tested the replacement and it seems fine--no smell of gas so far.

Advice to others: Celal said, Better to buy a known-brand gas heater if you can (e.g. Arcelik, Bosch, etc), as they can get the spare parts.

I would further advise: China Bazaar is fine for things like mugs, crockery, so forth. I would not buy anything electrical/mechanical (anything with moving parts) there again.
