Marshalls hardware store

Has anyone had any dealings with Marshalls hardware store on the main drag near Catalkoy?
Just wondering because I paid rather a lot for tools I bought.

Anyone know of a similar store with a good reputation?

I find that a lot of places don`t display prices and if you have a shopfull of people it is somewhat embarrassing when they till it up and it is only an afterthought you think....oh that was dearer than I expected...............maybe??

Depending on what you are comparing to and the makes you are buying then yes it can be expensive to buy tools here, it's like anything else if you want to buy "British" then you have to pay the price, import tax and all that, but I have found Marshalls and Choban(I put the "h" in) Trading to be reasonably priced, but if your worried about price then do what you would do in UK and shop around find out the prices before buying, normally if you ask nicely you can get a 10% discount.
I'm told it's cheaper to go to Lefkosa, but if your not after much the fuel costs outweigh the price reduction. I often wonder about this trolling around wasting gallons of fuel to save a pound
There a shop in Girne behind 1001 (never remember it's name) very good selection of tools and bits in there and good prices, it's usually my first stop

Its my understanding from what store owners have told me that there is no such store as Marshall, they are most independant Yapi Markets/Ticarets (although some people own more than one) However the Marshalls sign is usually the prominent advertising hoarding and people assume they are called Marshalls. The large store this end appears to have reversed the situation in that the name Tayff is now as large or larger that the Marshall hoarding. If something is priced higher than you are prepared to pay, just say NO I dont want it, thank you.

Halfull I believe the store you are referring to is called Tectan and they do have a wide selection of tools

Marshalls is just a brand they sell(Paint I think) lots of yapi markets have similar signs outside.
Coban In catalkoy is my favourite place for buying stuff,nice couple run it-(brother and sister I think?),they speak very good English and will give discounts for decent sized orders.

Yes it is a brother and sister that run Coban (I added the h for pronouciation) as you say very helpful and excellent English and very helpful
Yes Tectan is the place I meant.
As is stated Marshalls is not the store names it is the brand of paint they all sell and Marshalls seem to supply them all with large display signs to advertise the fact hence the confusion and being called Marshalls

CatalkoyChris - In my experience, the shop you mention does 'try it on'. When, in the past, I have queried his price, he reduces it immediately by 10% and will go lower if you push. I got tired of this and now use Coban in Catalkoy and Tectan in Girne.

Coban is the Yapi market 50 to 100 yards after "Pit stop" and the Pork shop on the main road from Catalkoy to Girne, on the right. Big sign Coban Trading. Front of shop now sporting "Marshall" signs, used to be "Stanley"
To get to Tectan from the Colony roundabout go down the main street of Girne , at the second cross roads (with the coop bank on the corner) turn left, after 1001 store take the first right, at the T junction turn right and it's on your right, there is a new car park almost opposite as parking can be a problem outside the shop.

me too. They are very helpful and if they have not got something they will even direct you to a competitor. Think couple of years ago I wanted a particular paint , they didn`t have it and directed me to the marshalls shop which had.

I haven't used the 'Marshalls' stores that often so can't really comment but can certainly vouch for Coban trading, they are always very helpful.

A couple of months ago I went in to Coban as I wanted a very small sample section of drainage pipe so that I could take it back home to compare size wise with UK stuff. I was told it only came in 6 metre lengths but the lady (sister) said to leave it with her and next time they go to the suppliers they would see if they could get a smaller section or offcut for me. True to her word, the next day I popped in and there it was Even better... no charge.

Coban is always one of the first places I try and with service like that, why wouldn't I.

I have used Coban several times, very helpfull, my last but one visit was for 2 dozen self tapping screws, when I tried to pay, the lady said "pay next time". I went back a couple of days later to purchase some pipe fittings and reminded her about the self tapping screws I owed her for. She still didn't charge me for the screws.Coban will be my first choice from now on.
