Does anyone know what import duty is charged if you import a car from UK? Also are charges by engine size or model of car? Also does anyone know of any firm that takes cars in containers. Thanks in advance if anyone has any information.

Euro med does a roro ferry no passengers allowed from Harwich cost us about £600
A percentage Glasses guide value of the car plus a tax on engine size
Rule of thumb upto 1400 cc and under 2000cc under 2000cc over were the bands when I imported 7 years ago and higher were the bands on engine size with diesels being taxed more heavily
Our 1.25 Fiesta import duty was £1500 it was six years old because we had the car from new we were able to import
Normally cars over five years old were precluded from personal import

I agree with the previous poster Don't Bother. I have been stung on Classic and also again last year on two more imported vehicles. It really is not worth the aggro.

Nowadays here there is a large choice of cars in Gallery's and forecourts. I feel that you would be far better buying here.

We brought a classic car over in a container with Euromed via Felixstowe 9 years ago.

For fear of getting my knuckles wrapped for telling you about another forum that has information regarding your query I have sent you a private message. Hope it helps.

The only guy I would use here as his been doing since he was 15 ( he must be 70 & knows everyone & everyone knows him) as a runner & still works out of the Famugusta docks with his own office now, is a guy called Mehmet , 0542 851 1396. If you call him he probally ask you to fax or mail him a copy of the V5 & he will calll you back with a break down of the charges , i.e. Army tax, import tax , tax on the engine size( which is the killer) & any other tax the government can think of , the amount he quotes will be the amount you pay, or at least it has been when I or any one I've recommended have used him, it will just be your cost here not shipping.

It used to be something like 40% for European cars & 62% for a Japanese car, of the value THEY say it's worth & that's based on an glasses guide that's a bit out of date & they knock a percentage off, but as I say it's what they say, your invoice for the purchase in the U.K. Is worth nothing, if you gave £5000 for it &'they say its value is £8000 u pay tax on the 8 grand, that's how I've found it, I did bring a car in before that they valued at 2 grand less than I paid for it so it can work the other way , the engine size one is the killer on a big engine car, take an ML Mercedes 320,, the cc I think your find is 3200 , they charge in U S $ ( I think this is the only tax they work out in $, no idea why) is about $5 per cc so 3200 x $5 is $16,000 & that's just the tax on the engine cc, if the car engine is under 2000 I think the cost per cc is lower but please call Mehmet who is one of the nicest guys your meet here, a true gent, he will answer all & every question you have .

All of the above is what I've found over the years I've used them, things might have changed so please don't hang me if I'm wrong on the rate being say $5.50 now & not $5, it's a rough guide, but mehmets number (& him ) are real & will help your plight .

Dalartokat, I can't speak for Soner, but from what he's said in the past, I don't think that he sees a general problem with members posting links to genuine information on another website, even if it is a forum, in cases where the information is not otherwise available on Kibkom

What he seems to object to, is the repetitive posting of links to another forum for the sole purpose of publicising that forum, on the back of the hard-earned popularity of this one.

If a Forum, Member, or Company has actually been banned from posting on the forum for breaking the forum rules, then of course you shouldn't post links to them, or publicise them either!

Thanks to everyone for information. I've concluded rightly or wronglyrics that it may be easier to purchase in TRNC.
