Kibtek question, can anyone answer ?..
My friends have been cut off from all electricity because their electrics were shorting everyone else's around them. They have been told that the whole house has to be rewired and only they are authorised to carry out the work. This is going to cost quite a lot and they are worried about payment. Will they be expected to pay all of it straight away or can they pay in instalments. Does anyone know ?...

Surely the sensible thing is to ask Kibtek. They are the only people who can answer such a question.

I understand that the Kibtek offices accounts etc upstairs - in Girne (just of the main High Street) do have people who can speak English. They are the people who have the full facts I would have thought.

I am not a leky but I can not see how any faulty wiring in my house would affect anybody else. The whole idea of the new meters is to stop things like that happening! Whenever I screw up any electrics in my place and trip my main switch it can't go any further and the new meter would not have been fitted if there was not a trip switch in the system first?
Standing outside the Kibtek place in Girne you have a choice of two doors - the one on the right is for paying your bills - the one on the left takes you up a set of stairs into another office. The guy you want to talk to sits inside a glass office at the far end of the main office, he will be able to sort it for you and he speaks very good english as well. Go see him first as it does not seem right to me that only Kibtek are authorised to do house wiring!!! If it was true then all the new houses would be without electric for many long years!!!

No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

There is a company in the industrial area in Karaoglanoglu called Just Ltd (the shop displays lighting in the window). They are authorised to do electrical inspections for Kibtek as they rewired our house when we went from builders electric to normal with a proper meter. The boss speaks English and should be able to advise you.

kibtek do not carry out electric works.
kibtek connect the grid cables to the electricity meter only . (or eg, disconnect)
for "electric work", we have electricians and electric contractors.
if there are no electric plans existing and house must be checked and rewired and new connected, then your friends need to contact an electric contractor, who may need to draw new plans, get them EMO (electric engeneers asso) approved and someone rewires the house.
then kibtek and the contractor will do a control and your friends will be reconnected by kibtek.
all that can take a while... and cost money.
can it be that Kibtek meant to rewire the mains electric cable from eg, transformer to house (so, cabling BEFORE the electric meter?), because , maybe, of a short there? water, broken cable , whatever...
also here: electric contractor...
