Should Scotland have another referendum
Given the Scottish Parliament ratification of a second referendum for the departure of Scotland from the UK. What should happen?
Given the clear uncertainty that the whole of the UK faces post BREXIT referendum. Is it time for the breakup on the United Kingdom?
Will and should Theresa May sanction the referendum?
Will Wales now more actively seek the same departure?
What is the future for the United Kingdom as the threat of collapse looms?

Guess you must be a noble white English man?
Collapse of GB. Would that be GREAT BRTAIN? Great Britain for the Great people ONLY !!
Guess you must be old school and one of the back to the good old days brigade.
You need to get out more into the real world rather than build walls and hide under the bed!!
My own view is that Scotland had the vote and spoke, Remain within the UK.

Re: Should Scotland have another referendum
Ms Sturgeon in my opinion is loosing credibility amongst many Scots with her crusade to leave the union.
She knows that should she fail in securing the independence vote should there be another referendum then her political career will almost certainly be over.
I bumped (literally) into her predecessor at Aberdeen airport a couple of years ago as he and his entourage of flunkies barged there way out of the airport exit walking thro people, children as they rushed on mobiles to hand to another impotent meeting no doubt. Obnoxious, self centred were the polite words I used.
I love Scotland having lived and worked there for many years. Have spoken to many Scots both pro and against independence and it certainly is a good discussion to have, but I sense that the constant pushing of this agenda by the SNP is beginning to grate with many.
If they are given the opportunity to vote again, I am confident the vote will be even more in favour of remaining in the union.

Posh
Yes I agree that any repeat vote would show even greater support for the UK.
Given the collapse of oil. Economically Scotland would be rather poorer than previously.
Economically the argument is much less strong than previous.
In addition the uncertainty over currency and application to the EU. Who would take the risk?

Well, it's quite a while since the last Jacobite rebellion, so perhaps it's about time...
...and don't forget people (especially in the Midlands and North) were also clamouring for independence from London and the south, together with joining Scotland....

Funny isn't it but when I hear the likes of Katie Hopkins or Mr Farage or Mr Banks talking about the state of Britain and the fundamental existential threat immigration poses to Britain and it's future, I hear little more than doom and gloom as well.geroff wrote:Waz, you are real gloom and doom, Collapse of GB? you really need to get out more ...

Re: Should Scotland have another referendum
I worked for a couple of scottish companies from 1972 and spent many months weeks and days in old reekie
The first stay was for a month in Ramsay Lane right by the castle in our opening introduction we were told as English not to go out in less than three's
if we go out as English group .
Used to watch the hibees when they had their great european team in the 1970 'sbeen to a Hibs Herts derby and waded off the terrace through beer bottles
Made some great friends there over the years and still in touch with them 10 years from retirement and meet up with them still in the UK Malta
But I've kept to my word and not gone back there
.In my last three years working in Scotland the one winging jock Stephen Graham in an open office of 70 plus was having his usual jocular fun about the English
I reminded him how we funded his bankrupt country through the Barnet formuae and tourism and drinking their exported whiskey and shortcake
I promised that they would not get another penny of my English money I got a few cheers from the rest of the Scottish staff and in my three remaining years Stephen was always polite and never mentioned his scotland the brave view on life
Unfortunately the nats have spread their racist bile over he last decade let them have their independence it was the scottish banks RBS & BoS that crashed the uk economy and their financial miss management that forced us to bail them out and let them be part of the union in the first place

Hadrian had the right idea, shame they never kept it in good repair and built another one across Wales as well, Ireland is safe as it has a moat around it. Once the Trump's idea has come into full effect then the English will have nothing to moan about and maybe just get one with life!

No, Scotland should not be allowed the opportunity to leave the "UnitedKingdom". I believe that the Scots should continue to play their part in our illegal wars and to enjoy the many benefits accorded to them by our English Conservative government.

wanderer, didn't work, they learnt how to swim - lol.
Being serious for a moment - odd for me that - I think Scotland should be allowed to do whatever it want's to do and the same for Wales and Ireland - after all none of them are English but are really separate countries as part of the United Kingdom. Now, as I see it, you can't have your Kingdom and eat it! So either everyone is British - in which case there should not be an England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales (in no particular order) or you have four separate yet similar countries who should be allowed to make their own choices. UK is a bit like Cyprus really only they all "kind of" speak the same language - what is the difference? England (RoC) want it all to be one and control it all and Scotland (TRNC) want to be recognised as equal partners and have a say! I guess it is how you view it.

Cross border discontent appears to be omnipresent.
Is this simply a them and us issue.
I believe both countries would be significantly weakened if the UK splits.
So what if any are the advantages....None. Nicola Sturgeon is simply a nationalistic power freak with little regard for thhe welfare and prosperity of the Scottish people.
Stay in the UK and remain stronger!!

If the sweatys think they will be better off on their own then let them get on withit.
Who on earth thinks we need them?
Go, get on with it and bugger off. Before you know it they will be begging to come back.
and that's when we should say no thanks. Go your own way and perish,as they will.

Re: Should Scotland have another referendum
I still struggle with the notion of Independence from the the rest of the UK and total dependence on the EU, and how that is compatible with a desire for independence... do the SNP want independence or not... The EU is being touted as an alternative to the union but Scotland can not actually deliver membership of the EU...Or so the EU say.
I also don't understand why those who seem to follow this line can not see through the obvious flaw in the Sturgeon argument... or is it that England is the bogey man.
"You are talking sh1te hen"
No referendum.

I some how do not think Scotland will have any type of walk in access to the EU.
Application and entry are miles apart and the Scottish economy as a stand alone would not carry access to the Euro.

Not at all jock it's just having lived there for many years and seen the hatred from many schemes towards anything unglish I despair. I have many good ex army mates from my service that are from Scotland NONE of which support independence or soapy and the fish. We just get sick and tired of hearing about it. If you want to go then eff off but you need a majority . Good luck with that. Maybe best to concentrate on the people and their needs as opposed to the idiots Ho ate hell Ben on you being a small independent country with little to offer but beautiful scenery.

The simple answer to Waz's simple question is if they want one yes.
Would they be better off outside UK ?,imo No.
Would they be able to join EU? not very likely

Re: Should Scotland have another referendum
I have no doubt that a second referendum will happen in due course. This of course despite the SNP and Ms Sturgeon stating during the last referendum that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
However; a second vote could well see the end of Ms Sturgeons political career should the SNP fail to secure the independence vote. It is finely balanced and I am not at all convinced that she will win the support she needs. As for leaving the UK and joining the EU, that is really a very long way off and could well take 10-20 years to secure.
Good luck to Scotland with Ms Sturgeon at the helm.

to be clear the UK held a referendum on leaving the EU the English didn't tell you what to do, it was the good people of all nationalities who had a right to vote and happen to live in England including a fair few Scots.

Clearly has no manners - surrounded by a group of flunkies mobile phones to hand barging mob handed thro families with children as they exited in haste from Aberdeen airport. No apologies, no excuse me.....just an air of unjustified self importance.
Many of the Scottish families around me that morning had little complimentary to say about the man.......never mind he is very astute and intelligent tho.

Re: Should Scotland have another referendum
In the event of a second referendum. Will Brexit have a bearing?
Now if BREXIT is a flop and the UK slides into recession and decline then of course Scotland will want to leave and apply directly to join the EU.
OR
If BREXIT proves to be a success with everyone better off, safe and secure the Scottish people, will certainly want to stay put.
Fact is everyone wants to do better and have a better life. Independent Scotland just because its Scotland will not win over the people in my view.
