Theresa May call for General Election

PM calls for election on 8th June

PM emphasising that we are leaving the EU and we need to take back control. Opposition parties are opposing Brexit and this is an opportunity for the government to seek a mandate to get the job done and ensure the UK is in a strong position to negotiate our leaving the EU.

Good move in my opinion.

Looks like the lady has made a complete U-turn since last year when she said there would be no general election.

A massive ego that needs feeding, what!

A chance for Labour to sort themselves out when Corbyn resigns after poor election results .

HI THINK THE PM HAS DONE THE RIGHT THING.SHE CANNOT GO INTO TALKS OVER THE BREXIT ISSUE WITH ALL THE BACKBITING AND TURNCOATS WITHIN HER PARTY. SHE HAS TO GO TO NEGOTIATE HARD TERMS WITH THE FULL BACKING OF ALL THE MPS.IT WOULD BE EVEN WORSE IF CORBYN THE BRAINLESS ONE GOT IN.TELL ME ON BOTH SIDES WHO IS GOOD ENOUGH TO LEAD THIS COUNTRY ?.GIVE IT UKIP NIGEL BACK IN CHARGE AND WE WOULD BE BETTER OFF.NO MORE WASTING OF MONEY ON GLOBAL WARS /FOREIGN AID/AND HIGH WAGES (FIDDLING)MPS.

If only Nigel could. What a superb leader he would make.

In my view
Theresa May is acting on her position of strength OR more likely the opposition position of weakness. There is no clear or plausible opposition to the current Government.

I think it a sure fire victory for the conservative party. I wonder how many left wing socialists will indeed turn markedly to the right in support of Mrs May's BREXIT strategy.

I think right wing politics will prevail in the UK now for some time.
I express concern over how right wing UK politics is becoming.

Why would anyone be surprised at how strong right wing politics has become in Europe with the failed and relentless Liberalism that has been rammed down the throats of hard working people who are sick to the back teeth of seeing their living standards decline over the last 20 years.
Things need to change and this change is now taking place.

Not sure Brexit can be claimed by the right wing the vote was carried by working people in mainly traditional Labour heartlands not given voice by the Unions / Labour Party..
Mrs May who was a remainer has moved the Conservative Party to the left with talk of Fairer Britain, she has yet to deliver admittedly but is rather busy, and at least she will have to face the country on her record eventually.

Probably why a General Election has been called. A simple excuse to lose and vanish or quit before the sh*t hits the fan. To me it just seems like running for the hills by all parties. It would not surprise me if the "Monster Raving Looney" party did not get in as it seems to be already there by a different name.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

There must be a certain irony that the Labour party is now run by and to large extent supported by, a left wing political elite who find the values of the very people who's votes they need, to get elected, absolutely abhorrent.

Appears to be a clear level of support for the conservative party. I think the party will establish itself as the only real government of credibility.
I am indeed a supporter though not a party member.

Once the election is won then I expect more rather right wing policies to emerge. Whilst I should welcome such a swing. I do have a concern over the very drastic right wing politics that is gathering momentum in Europe and the USA.

I hope nobody is suggesting (Moonagedaydream) that Theresa May is going to lock up all our academics and journalists who don't agree with her policies. Get a grip for goodness sake (as Mr wogan, bless him, might have said)
