Car Park Fee's
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it but I noticed that the Car Park fee for the main car park in town has jumped from 3 tl to 5 tl.
I know this is only a couple of lira but a 66% increase in income is a hell of a pay rise.

5tl is still cheap.... But why not just park on Zebra Crossings or even better on the forecourt blocking the entrance to a supermarket? costs nothing and earns you the admiration of the locals... who are apparently all disabled too!
I know but it gets my goat is all....

And, parking on Zebra crossing is on a first come basis. Love it!

Well, it was 3TL when we moved here 8 years ago, and the £ was around 2.5, so very little increase in real terms over the years.I know this is only a couple of lira but a 66% increase in income is a hell of a pay rise.

Maybe when you earn less than 2052tl a month explains why some people don't use the car park. I just wish the first 45 minutes was about 3tl and more the longer you stay but like the hospitals in the uk they jumps from 3 hours to a day and make the most money on the people under 3 hoursGroucho wrote:5tl is still cheap.... Lodger they went up a couple of weeks after Easter I think. Just in time to catch the holiday makers. However if you know the guy in the change office, just give a toot on your horn and he will raise the barrier for you. Same process in the car park opposite The Rocks. The St Andrew has a different system Just wave to the bloke with the receipts as you walk off and all is well. If you insist on a receipt then 3 hours is your maximum. If you don't ask for a receipt the chances are you'll be able to stay much longer. It just depends how he feels and whether he lost at the Casino the night before.

Lodger, it was all tongue in cheek, hope you realized that. Don't want to get you into trouble!!! But you can always give it a try though.

Car Park opposite Buyuk Han in Lefkosa have also increased from 5TL to 10TL. Difference being 5TL used to be for first hour then I think 1TL every hour after. Now you can stay all day on the 10TL fee. As I was enquiring about it, the man in the booth said if I hadn't the 10TL, then I should not worry about it, which was nice of him.

I noticed the car park charges had gone up in the main car park so I parked in the house car park which was still 3TL, that was 3 weeks ago though, they might change it when they realise

The charge was 2 tl when I left the island 9 years ago, so I don't think the price now is so bad.

I think this is the problem they do seem to increase things after years not yearly hence why it seems so high. I dread the immovable property tax next increase, last time our house went from 20tl to 54tl.kaiserphil wrote:The charge was 2 tl when I left the island 9 years ago, so I don't think the price now is so bad.

Lodger; I know it's slightly off topic but whose ''fee's'' are you talking about?

Lodger, just between you, me and lord knows how many more. If you are ever asked into to a back room at the Police Station, to meet the "workers" it does help to take a large box of Baklava with you to hand around with the coffee. Works wonders!!

Yes it is good value but a large increase for those on minimum wage.Johnny Lee wrote:Damn good value. 5 weeks ago whilst on business in Manchester , It cost me approx 22.00 pounds to park from 11.00am until 3.30 pm. (and it was p------g down and cold and grey.

Unfortunately inflation here is off the scale. Virtually everything has doubled in the last 5 years. Yes for people on the minimum pittance it is awful. But also so rough for many people reliant on investments.
Not too bad if your are of pension age. or have large sums of Stg. coming in. But surely if someone is on the breadline on a minimum wage , then would they have a car ? Just a thought.

Lodger; I know it's irritating to be corrected but it's probably better to be a pedant than an ignoramus.
No offence but I do rather like the English language.
Language isn't quite everything but it comes pretty close.

1987 hit and miss, man on a chair, soil car park with no guide on how to park but hey girne was a 2 way road leading to the lapta single tarmac track and the Renault was king but now only seen driven by workers to get to their jobs.
Increases here seem to be large apart from minimum wage but not as frequent as the uk where things go up by pennies here 50 kurus minimum and they say its because they import in dollars and euros.

Yeah, I know for a fact the air you breath in the car park is imported in US Dollars...snd1966 wrote:Increases here seem to be large apart from minimum wage but not as frequent as the uk where things go up by pennies here 50 kurus minimum and they say its because they import in dollars and euros.
