transferring money to the UK
Haven't done this before but am looking to transfer 5000 GBP to my account in the UK, if I use my Girne bank for this are there any issues in the UK? re tax liability etc, other option is to hand carry back through Larnaca (do you have to declare?) as I will be over soon.

You can take £10.000.00 with you by hand however you will need to provide evidence of where it came from in order that you can deposit into your UK bank.

I think that is 10.000 euros and not pounds that you are allowed to take in

This site may prove useful.....it also covers the sale of overseas property. Solicitors in the TRNC who transfer money from house sales to UK bank accounts are now accountable to HMRC. Turkey and Cyprus fall within this remit. CGT is payable on profits made.

Message from non member:
Transferring Money to the UK - As posted by "Lhasa on 5 June )
I am not a forum member but read posting regularly. My wife and I lived in Lapta, North Cyprus from 2004 - 14.
We banked with Turk Bank and also with the Co op Offshore Guernsey, 'till they closed that facility in 2012 / 13.
Turk Bank, or Turkish Bank (UK) Ltd opened us an account at their London HQ as a non resident and suffice to say, saved us a whole lot of heartache. A visit to their UK web site will confirm that facility is still available.
Perhaps you could make the message poster aware of this please!
We continue to bank with them, needless to say.
Kind regards.
Adrian

Just had a look at the website and I think you have to go to the London branch to open an account. We bank with creditwest but are resident in UK, unfortunately nowhere near London!!
