New reservoir picnic area
Had a look over the new reservoir from the viewing point on the way to Camlibel and noticed a picnic area on the far side of the water. Can anyone tell me how to get to it?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: New reservoir picnic area
We got to it from a road on the left as you go up the road passed the reservoir it was rough at the start don't know if it's still the same as work was going on there it takes you over the reservoir to the picnic area, the road we found coming back was much better it brought us out onto the main road passing through the buildings on the roadside. Had a very enjoyable walk and the a picnic there and that was in February last year.

I would love to be able to argue with you Lurcher, but sadly I think you are probably correct. I looked over from the car at the large picnic area on the way to Lefkosa last week and its dreadful, yet again.

Indolence, ignorance, arrogance or indifference all equate to the contribution of the litter problem, including builder's rubble, which is endemic here. Hey ho, it is their country and if the locals are content to live like this, who are we expats to interfere? Several expats on our estate clear litter and garden waste from the public areas to see locals littering again at will.

Re: New reservoir picnic area
Off topic I know but its the same when everyone contributes to the Health charities. I can just imagine the powers that be saying "Oh don't worry, we needn't contribute a kuros, because we know the expats will buy us all the equipment we need. Just sit back and they will come up with what we need. So now chaps, what type of Merc do you want to have your chauffeur drive next year"!!!! We interfere (if that's what it is) because we care. Pure and simple.

Sophie, please believe me when I say I totally respect the expats attempting to improve the many problem areas here. However, our many caring interventions, on a number of subjects, appear to have zero effect on local views. I have, personally, had a discussion in a local cafe where a group of locals told me to leave the country if I was unhappy here and stop telling them how they should behave in their own land. Litter does not appear to be an issue, despite the tourist views, even if tourists leave the hotel and casino to see the country.

Got to agree with Sophie, why do we put so much effort into raising funds to prop up the medical services here when they waste so much money on stupid schemes that benefit very few and of course the majority of us use private medical facilities so it doesn't even benefit many of us. I understand providing for animal charities as we are mostly an animal loving nation and find it difficult to see animals harmed however providing urgent medical equipment to save the Government providing it is a waste of time and effort as it is only appreciated by the few.

How has this thread changed from litter in picnic areas to health care and animal charities? Please keep on the theme or start a separate post.

I think that message 2 meant to say that the road takes you over the top of the DAM, rather than over the reservoirDave G wrote:No it was how to get to the picnic area not litter in picnic area and to be honest although message 2 tried to explaine I still don't know how to get there?
I've pinpointed the entrance to the road on this map.
If you have a GPS, or Maps.me on your 'phone or tablet, it's at
35°19'41.5"N 33°03'46.2"E or
35.328180, 33.062828
depending on which coordinate system your device is setup to use.

Don't be surprised if the route by car is blocked - Kuskor birders have been stymied in attempts to review the bird-life on the reservoir for some months.. only with determination have some members managed to circumvent the blockades and walk the route...

Two things:-Lurcher wrote:Of course the car route needs blocking or every 4x4 idiot on the island will be using it as a race track dropping litter as they go. No respect for this beautiful area.
1. Kuskor members are not 4x4 idiots and
2. If they are meaning the facilities to be used what's the point?
It's worth noting that the observation hide built is totally unsuitable for the purpose as it wobbles at the slightest provocation - so you can't keep binoculars or telescope still - so it looks nice but is a waste of money. Which is a shame - had they sought advice they would have been informed that rigidity is essential.

Groucho, most of us who have been here a number of years know they do NOT ask for advice on anything ( at least in our 12 years they haven't), to do so looses face. Is the observation hide similar to the photograph in C2D. Must admit, it doesn't look like anything I've frozen to death in on the North Norfolk Coast!! They were much more camouflaged.

Re: New reservoir picnic area
I have just read through all of the messages on this topic and this forum is getting just like the old Cyprus 44 got, back biting and niggling at one another. I think it's time to say goodbye to this forum and go to a more civilised one where people have a little respect for each other.

I don't see anything in this thread that might compare to some of the more vitriolic threads on the old Cyprus44.

Went there yesterday, drove over the dam to where the lookout post is,gate was locked but not manned. Obviously no one at picnic area. There were a few fishermen.
