The RBL Theatre Players are delighted to announce that after a 2 year hiatus the seasonal pantomime is back with a brand new location!
The Theatre Players formed in September 2011 under the directorship of Mark Lake with his first show being ‘Broadway and Beyond’ in March 2012. He then wrote and directed a total of five pantomimes in the next 4 years including Cinderella, Aladdin, Jack and the Beanstalk, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves and Dick Whittington. The shows were put on at several locations including the Baron’s Theatre at the Chateau Lambousa hotel in Lapta and the Girne Cultural Centre. However there has been an ongoing problem of procuring a suitable venue in recent years but the new Director Ian Chennell, who took over the role in March, believes that he has found the answer. He said: “Our pantomime ‘Robin Hood’ is back and I am delighted to be able to bring good news for a change. ‘Robin Hood’ may not exactly be riding through the glen but he will certainly be causing a stir in Alsancak! Due in the main to the hard work of John and Julia Bennett and the good offices of Unal Karaca we have now secured the brand new Alsancak theatre for our November extravaganza! The 3 evening performances will take place on Wednesday 29 & Thursday 30 November and Friday 1st December. Unfortunately there will not be any matinee performances this year. We have the full support of the Mayor of Alsancak Firat Ataser to whom we are very grateful and as a token of our gratitude we intend to give a donation from the profits to the Mayor's Alsancak Association which assists poor families in the area. The Belediye is putting the finishing touches to the brand new theatre above their offices which is scheduled to be finished in August and it will have seating for 400 with an upper dress circle and raked stall seats.”
