It's just been reported on the news that an explosive device has been thrown at the entrance to Dhekelia, a policeman has been injured in the incident where a motorcyclist drove to the entrance and threw the device. It is believed to be a criminal investigation not terrorist.

Is this not how the EOKA campaign started in the 1950s?

Or maybe it's a warning from the disgusting trappers who murder millions of migratory songbirds to sell to their restaurants, served as Ambelopoulia. It's a massive business bringing in big money for the trappers. The SBA base at Dhekelia is the main killing area in the whole of Cyprus and the Ministry of Defence, after much global condemnation for their inactivity, has finally started to take action against the trappers. They have made some arrests, cut down some of the Acacia trees planted by the trappers to attract the birds, and seized equipment. But it's too little too late,in my view.

You may be right but I retain the view that throwing a bomb to intimidate is by definition an act of terrorism...

You can call it criminal or terrorist, but its bad whatever you call it and does not help the current climate. Whoever did it is on a win-win situation

Knowing the base area it appears that an explosive device was thrown at the SBA Police Station possibly from a motorbike. The SBA Police Station is on the edge of the main base area near the saddle club and road junction which heads out to Kingsfield airstrip, Pyla and the border crossing at Beyarmudu (Pergamos).

The barracks are guarded and the entrance to the married quarter areas are strictly controlled. To be honest the SBA Police Station would have been a relatively easy target....throw the device and drive off down the road.

An easy target that is Posh - reported as being a grenade by Cyprus Mail today - but I guess it will never be classed as a terrorist action, more a "Policing Action" if the UK has anything to say about it. Ex service will understand that particular phrase!!!

Maybe letting the infantry regiment here sort out the nets and lime sticks as after all it's someone invading the SBA area The base police obviously and understandably do not want to get involved. The eu has warned the south enough times. Let them sort it out.

It must be blatantly obvious that the SBA police are NFFP... Small wonder. We would be amazed if any other body was guarded by those related to their main antagonists. You have to ask whether the judgement of those who appoint people with no stomach to carry out their duties effectively also renders them NFFP?

would you want a fire service staffed almost exclusively from the ranks of notorious arsonists? Or a babysitter from a well known gang of paedophiles?

I agree with you P in D, I know this police station well, when they put the fence round the barracks and married quarters they should have moved the police station inside the fence which you have pointed out have guarded entrances. Were it stand at the moment on the main road leaves it open to attack from anybody.
