The conservatives pact with the DUP

An extra billion pounds for Northern Ireland,
amazing how we can magic up that amount of money
Here are the financial concessions the Conservatives have made to secure the DUP deal:
Keep the pension triple lock in place and retain winter fuel payments for all pensioners, reversing manifesto promises to scrap them
Spend at least 2% of GDP on national defence, and extend the Armed Forces Covenant to Northern Ireland
Invest £1 billion on roads, broadband internet, health reform and reducing poverty in Northern Ireland
Maintain funding for Northern Irish farmers even after the end of EU agriculture subsidies

All for one, single, unambiguous purpose...
...so that Mrs May can hang on to power, regardless of the cost in Financial, Political, or Moral terms

Good to see they have included the NHS in extra funding???? Maybe the NHS in Northern Ireland do not need any more assistance then?

There goes your Knighthood Keith - and you were so close to - lol.

Sheer unadulterated blackmail, pure and simple. It's only supposed to be for two years or something. The Sturgeon woman and the Welsh one will be next out with the begging bowls. Once you give in to blackmail, it never stops. so this is only the beginning. Bad, bad move,

From the way he's acting you would think he has been elected! The lady who said he's wrote a letter to Santa Claus wasn't too far wrong.

What wonderfully erudite, politically and well informed information there sometimes is on this forum. Or does is the info from knee jerking reflexes? Laugh? I wet my knickers.

As I just mentioned to someone... "Everyone is entitled to an opinion, even if it's the 'Wrong One' (i.e. 'not mine' )".johnerebus wrote:...What wonderfully erudite, politically and well informed information there sometimes is on this forum...

If the UK has £1m to spend on an impoverished northern half of an island, I can think of a good cause

RR, the figure quoted was £1 BILLION ... it beggars belief, doesn't it?Ragged Robin wrote:If the UK has £1m to spend on an impoverished northern half of an island, I can think of a good cause

You are right as usual Keith and quick off the mark! I am not used to sums like that - I loose track of the noughts after 10! (and that is in TL!)
Let us just hope and pray that belief isnt the only thing it beggars!

Re: The conservatives pact with the DUP
It's simple political bargaining - nothing drastic in there (unlike the deal done with the liberals in 2010). Most European countries are used to coalitions, agreements & alliances - for some reason the majority of the UK press are very immature when it comes to grown up issues.niceone wrote:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-40403434

1,000,000,000 (one billion, short scale; one thousand million or milliard, yard, long scale) is the natural number following 999,999,999 and preceding 1,000,000,001. One billion can also be written as b or bn.
Or as they might say on Craggy Island,
"That's a lot of feckin money"
