Initial Trnc driving licence application

Went with my wife to the immigration office in Girne police station to start her residency process today all went well until explaining to the lady officer who speaks english that as I was 60, I was not applying, she asked if I would be getting a trnc driving licence, as i said that was next on my list she said that I would require residency then as it would be an initial application and not a renewal. I pointed out I had read on the BRS website that you only needed a Muhtars residency letter which I have. She stated quite firmly that it was impossible to make an initial application without a residency stamp in my passport.

Has anyone any clarity on this please either by recent personal experience or better knowledge of the situation than me, before I shell out for blood tests and residency?

Cant help with your query but have you asked in the driving schools near Girne police station they do a lot of application's for people.

Bear in mind that in north Cyprus not every official understands their own law! So you can be misinformed.

My wife was told by a driving school that she would have to have a residency permit before she could apply, but another driving school said (correctly) only a Mukhtar letter (from their standard pad) was needed, Insurance agent Trevor Hughes is the best person to go to with any queries about motoring issues here, and he can be contacted via his page here: https://cyprusscene.com/2017/06/05/nort ... june-2017/

I got my initial driving licence with just the Mukhtar's letter

We applied for our driving licences 2 weeks ago. Husband over 60 & me under 60. Accepted husbands application with no problem. They refused mine as under 60. I was told to return with our house deeds, , which we did 2 days later. This time it was accepted no problem. Got to go & collect from 5th July.
We do not live here, but come & go throughout the year & do not have residency.
At one point, we were even told, they didn't know what the rules were themselves.

Did mine in Feb, had letter from Mukhtar, UK Driving Licence, Passport & 500TL.

Went to the Ozbek Driving School by the police station in Girne and the Girne Mukhtar did everything for me. He photocopied my driving licence & passport, gave me the photocopy should I get stopped by the police, went back two days later got my passport & driving licence back. Went back 4 weeks later and picked up my licence. Three year licence somit cost me about 120TL to have it done for me.

Seems there are a few ways you can do it, I chose the above and end result is the same.

Thank you all above, went to Lefkosha today both mine and my wife's Trnc licences sorted with only Muthars letter, less than 20 mins.
