insurance and road tax questions
I am a new driver (got my license last year). I will need to pay my road tax soon and I am wondering about how that works, because I also want to change my car insurance company.
Is there any specific order in which I need to pay for (insurance , road tax) ? Or can I just pay whichever first?
also is there any thing such as car inspection that they do ?
Also do I need to go to my old insurance company and do something there? or do I just go to a new insurance company since old contract with old insurance company is expired anyway... Please recommend a good car insurance company...
information would be really appreciated
Thank you

Re: insurance and road tax questions
Hunter, First, congratulations on your first years survival on the road! Second, "Car Inspection" or as some know it MOT: This will give you dates for this year: https://cyprusscene.com/2016/12/31/nort ... uary-2017/ and this will give you more general information: http://www.brstrnc.com/index.php/lifest ... rth-cyprus
From own experience, check to see if you are due or past your MOT date, if your motor has a current MOT then do your insurance first before you go to the tax office. If your car is out of MOT then do that before you do anything else. It is a very stringent check so make sure your car is clean, has mudflaps and be prepared to have to buy a new set of number plates - oh yes, mind you don't get a poke in the eye from the guy with the lamp on the stick and beware because occasionally they will check your lights!
Last, insurance? You don't need to do anything with your old company as your current insurance is out of date anyway so you have no insurance at the moment - please don't tell us you are still driving around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

Re: insurance and road tax questions
Have never known them to check insurance at car tax office or at a police stop for that matter they have only ever asked for my driving licence. I am guessing that there must a large percentage of uninsured vehicles here would be interesting to know how many.
At least most of the new cars should be insured as if you have a bank loan they insist on it.

Re: insurance and road tax questions
Thank you both for the information and the useful information sources, My car is NY and I just got it this year, and I read on the second website that it's done every 3 years so I am guessing that I will not require to do MOT.
I am not driving uninsured at the moment , my insurance and road tax will expire soon though , so I was just asking before that happens!
Thanks again for the useful information, much appreciated!
It would be great if anyone can recommend a good insurance company ...

I've never had to make a claim, which is when you actually find out... but ESTA in Karaoğanoğlu and Alsancak seem O.K. to me

Hunter, your NY registration is not on the list of registrations that require MOT this year.

Re: insurance and road tax questions
Thanks everyone. and for anyone whoever sees this. My old insurance was with anadolu sigorta, I am a new driver and I did have an accident and police did say it was my fault.
However I am really not happy with how my insurance company acted. Basically my car company did fix my car, however after a few MONTHS my car company contacted me telling me that they have not received the money yet from anadolu sigorta and they wanted me to go there.
After I went there, what I understood from them is , they were delaying my payment for all this time on purpose and they wanted me to write a paper and sign saying I want to cancel my insurance and that they would refund me for the remaining days. After I asked how long it would take to actually send the money if I sign they said it would take 2 days max or something. Basically they said they didn't want me anymore because of risk and because of my license.
I only wanted to share this as a heads up for other people.

Re: insurance and road tax questions
I am insured with Dagli Sigorta in Karaoglanoglu (nearly opposite the tailor Exotic Kumas) and have always found Trevor and Mary and their staff very helpful. I had a couple of small bumps this year, one my fault the other not, and had no problem getting the car fixed. No increase in premium either as a result.
