IPlayer GONE

For 9 or 10 months I have had an intermittent warning from BBC iPlayer that I would soon be unable to watch iPlayer on my PC. Just come back from holiday to discover that I cannot get a thing and a large notice across my screen says

YOU NOW NEED TO SIGN IN TO WATCH.
It's quick and easy and we'll keep you signed in.
Sign in or Register

In order to watch iPlayer I always watch via Multimax VPN and apart from the 9 or 10 months of warning messages, I have had no problems.

Do you think I should take my laptop down to Multimax office and see if they can put it right. What with IPlayer gone and earlier Film On changing to PAYG its a bit much. We have a set top box but reception has been pretty dire, on programmes emanating from the UK. which either freeze or are watcheable for 11mins and then vanish.

++++++++++++++++

10 mins after typing the above I have discovered IPlayer radio has also gone. It was on yesterday.

There was a lot of discussion about this 'signing in' business on a thread not so long ago, and I demonstrated that it was easy and straightforward.

Find the thread, follow the instructions, and you'll be OK.

I don't know why your reception is 'dire' on a set top box, I've got 4 of them around the house, and they're all working fine! - Is your set top box connected to your router via a cable or wifi? - and if it's wifi, how far away from the router is it? - e.g. is it in the same room?

Why don't you watch the free NTV channels on your Kodi box?

Went on to search and read loads and loads on an iPlayer thread but nothing seemed relevant to the message on screen this evening i.e. pictures are ghosted out and message reads

BBC iPlayer only works in UK.

Sorry, its due to rights issues.

That was with the MM VPN switched on.

BTW, our set top box has never really been set up, just unpacked and plugged in!!! KODI is just one of loads of Apps (90%) of which we don't want and I wouldn't have a clue how to find NTV in any case. Cheers

I didn't ignore the warning messages and signed up as requested.

I'm able to use iPlayer and iPlayer Radio no bother using the Multimax VPN.

Keith, I followed your instructions and I sure as hell wouldn't like to pay the window cleaning bill in my new London abode!!! Thanks. I have also retrieved NTV back on the laptop by digging out an email addresses I had in the long distant past and that again worked first time. Now all I have to do is work out the unwanted APPS on the set top box, ditching the stuff that came with it and what I will never want. Two out of three ain't bad!!!
