Our friends 2 grandsons arrived via LCA to Metehan where the lady noticed their passports had expired. Very kindly she let them come in.
They have been ringing round to try to find out where to go to get emergency travel document the online application for an appointment Greek side is not working & embassy this side appears to have closed they have rang but line keeps going dead.
Anybody any advice please?

This of course makes it very difficult, if not impossible, for anyone on this side who has an expired passport to go to see them!

North Cyprus, Telephone: +90 (0)392 228 3861 appears to be largely unmanned these days and I would suggest that you contact either the South side High Commission Office or phone FCO UK direct. Sorry I can not help more.

You need to apply on line and then you will be given an appointment at the British Embassy.

The cost is £100 and the travel document is issued the same day

You may not need one if the Cypriot authority let you in they wont stop ýou leaving and the UK authority only need to know that the passport was issued to you even if its expired your rights havent.
EU citizens often dont use passports they use their national ID cards.
ETD are usually issued if you have no documents at all

Emergency travel documents are issued to British citizens whose passport has been lost, stolen or expired.

Still say its worth checking with the airline, if it was accepted on departure and was out of date it was the airlines fault and if the Cypriot authority accepted it the UK authority would, Immigration have to be satisfied you are a EU/UK national to allow entry.
