Depends on what you need, some are cheaper, but the ones I have there was very little difference, it was not worth buying elsewhere.

Very little difference to UK prices, north or south.

the actual standard lenses are very reasonable or were last year, the frames though have risen ten fold

the first post does not state if the person has a prescription , this is around 100tl mark but again may of risen since last year.

Just for comparison I have recently bought 2 pairs of glasses with varifocal lenses and reactolite finish for £219 the pair at Asda in the UK. They also had a selection of designer frames (including Jimmy Choo!!) which worked out a tad more.

If you are in possession of a current prescription, you could try a web site similar to these.

I think that the point that the OP is making is that the people on whose behalf he was making enquiries are in the UK, or will be in the UK at some point.

I think that he was probably trying to find out - for them - whether there was any advantage in having glasses made here, as opposed to getting the job done in the UK - just my impression!

Just ordered from Glasses Direct ( 2 pair Bifocals ) 1 normal and 1 sun glasses full cost 135 pounds or $225 AU a very good price for 2 pair of glasses,
So thanks to Kanonier for the link, we live in Queensland Australia and they do deliver to 20 countries, very pleased with the price.
I will let you know how I got on, ie. if the glasses fit and that they get the right prescription,

It was not a good idea to get glasses in the UK and sent to Australia, just not worth it, this is what they sent me in an email,
sorry for the long winded email, I gave them all the information when I ordered the glasses.
home address, phone No, prescription details, everything that they needed to make me a pair of glasses.
but I have to give them credit, I asked for my money to be refunded, and this was done right away.

Dear R Macmillan,
Thank you for placing your order with Glasses Direct.
As you have asked for the glasses to be sent outside of the UK there are some changes to our normal conditions we need to inform you of.
We will need confirmation of your shipping address, a mobile telephone number for courier delivery and to see a copy of your prescription so we can check the details have been entered correctly before we can proceed with your order.
As you have ordered multifocal lenses, one of our opticians will need to confirm a couple of the elements of your order before we can proceed further. We can only provide multifocal lenses overseas to current multifocal users.
If your pupil distance has been measured by your optician, please confirm this for us. However, if this is self-measured it's unlikely to be accurate enough, so we'd need you to send us a photo of yourself.
In the photo you will need to take off your glasses, and place a credit/store card on your forehead, close to your eyebrows. The card you use is for scaling purposes and we can accept any card which is identical in size to a debit/credit card. You will need to be in a well lit area and looking straight ahead at the camera (think passport photo) with your eyes open.
Please also either photograph or scan the prescription signed by the optometrist. Attach a copy of the prescription to a reply to this email for us to check.
After you have sent these details, our opticians will need to discuss a couple of the elements of your order before we can proceed further. Please call us on +44 17 9374 6555 between 9am and 5pm (GMT) Monday to Friday.
Our terms and conditions for returning your glasses will also vary slightly. If you wish to return the glasses to us for exchange or refund you will need to pay for the postage. If however the glasses need to be returned because there is a fault we will refund the postage for this to be done.
Kind regards

I had an eye test yesterday at Kamiiloglu hospital yesterday, near the HSBC bank. Dr Hussain, very good. His number is 0533 837 8887. Up to the minute equipment. 120 tl.

Then I went to the optical shop I always use , approx 200 mtrs. from George's cafe on the right hand side going down the high street. Akay Optic,. Ordered new lens only, (my frames are OK.) Vari focal, with night tint 500tl. approx 14 days delivery due to Bayram.

I could have had cheaper lens at 350 or more expensive at 650. So I chose the middle one.

If you need frames they have a very good selection, Optician speaks English and is very helpful.

Earlier this month I had an eye test in the UK and took my prescription to Akay Optik near Deniz Plaza. They had the largest selection of frames I have ever seen and I have been wearing specs for over 60 years. The young lady I saw was called Ayse and spoke perfect English. She was very patient whilst I chose my frames. I opted for a pair of reading glasses which were Rayban and cost 350TL for the frames and 90TL for the lenses. They were ready for collection in around an hour.
I also chose a pair of Gucci frames which were 380TL and said I wanted the best varifocal lenses they could get. I was told the best they had were Kodak at 1100TL, but they also had cheaper ones. The gentleman there, called Avni, took great care to take measurements for the varifocal lenses and said they would take about 10days as they had to come from Turkey. One week later he phoned to say they were ready.
I didn't have time to get the specs made in the UK and was a bit apprehensive getting them here. All in all I have to say that the service couldn't have been better and I'm very happy with the price and service I received.
