Erdener supermarket.

After many false dates and problems with new fridges from Italy the new Erdener supermarket is now open.Entrance currently is through the old fruit and veg section into the new car park. Someone is there to help guide you. Very spacious inside

Is there disabled parking? And do they have new trolleys like those at Şah? The Erdener used to be my favourıte shop but their trolleys needed an HGC licence to handle. Since the occasion when a helpful member of staff placed one conviently for me only to have it swept out of my hand by a charging herd of buffalo thinly disguised as Brits , I have given up on it. It would be nice to be able to go back.

Just been to do a shop, very very pleasant experience. Ragged Robin you will no doubt be pleased to hear that right in the entrance is a brand new wheel chair, there for those that need it. The car park is very well set out with allocated spaces, plus proper trolley parks within the designated car parking spaces. It was, however, interesting and quite pathetic to see some moron even though there were lots of parking spaces, had just left their vehicle right in the middle of the driving in and out area....and then, interesting to see, what we think was a brit, pull up alongside it to completely block it off...how sad and pathetic was that. Overall, very impressive. We have always shopped in Erdener, the staff are always lovely, but this takes it up a level. Plenty of room between the aisles, not bumping into anyone, and a fresh fish counter. Yes, Ragged Robin they are new trolleys although not gliding as smoothly as Sah....but nonetheless very well thought out and well stocked.

I personally do not need a wheel chair - yet - inşallah - but I am ındeed pleased to see the needs of the disabled are being taken into account.

I take it by "designated" you mean there are spaces reserved for those who cannot walk far.

Yes I agree whatever the supermarkets do re parking can be overriden by selfish individuals of all races, as witness my experience told in mylast post. Supreme used to employ someone to supervise parking in peak periods but I havent noticed it recently and ufortunately none of the other supermarkets have taken it up - cost of wages perhaps?

Just been . Watch the adverised price against what you are charged.
.got 2 bottles of prosecco at 19 99 . The price charged was 21.99 each. The girl at the check out said that was the price if I wanted them . Nobody to complain to. Why cannot they call a supervisor ?. Not a good start for the New shop is it ?

INSIST that they call a Supervisor or the Store Manager, and stand there and create a fuss until you get the item at the 'shelf price'.

...And, if you've got the time, go back to the shelf, grab another one, and repeat the performance until they knuckle down and condescend to change the shelf price!

The shelf price is not legally binding I'm afraid. It's an invitation to treat.

That may be the letter of the law, although I doubt that any of the Supervisors or Managers have such an in-depth knowledge of the law as you do...

However, I find that if you stand there and make a fuss, then they give in!

No Supervisor wants to be responsible for an embarrassing 'kerfuffle' at the checkout! Just raise your voice by a few Decibels, (so that everyone else can hear what's happening) but remain polite

They do tend to argue a little more about it here than they do in Tesco's in the UK, but they do give in, in the end - and as far as I'm concerned, "If they haven't agreed to do what I want, then it's not the end"!

In the UK......a shop is not obliged to sell you anything. Of course its not in a shops interest to show you the door so they will usually put their hands up to a mistake but they don't have to.

The staff worked from 0700 hrs in the morning until 0100hrs the following morning getting the place ready and transferring goods from the old store to the new one which I'm sure resulted in a few errors in pricing, we visited on Wednesday to find the same issue however there was a young lady who I assume is management watching the tills and sorting any issues that occurred. The new store is certainly an improvement on the old one with some very good electrical priced items.

Keith, your reply reminds of a guy a knew who always got what he wanted when he was on holiday in Spain, he maintained that he did not need to know the language of the country, it was their fault if they did not speak English because they just wanted the money from the tourists! His answer to everything was just to start shouting about what he wanted till the caved in and he got it - told me it never failed! Wonderful person, really a true ambassador for his country!!! Probably the first time in ten years that I have disagreed with you and that because I find that if they will not sell at shelf price then leaving it on the till along with every other bit of shopping has the desired effect - along with seeking out the manager and telling him why I have taken that action. Normally we can then discuss it all so that everyone is aware that either the displayed price is out of date or the shelves have been restocked recently or the bar code is wrong. Have never had a problem with Supreme, Erdener, Sah or even Lemar (on the odd occasion I use them) and it is much better than shouting mate!

Mrs Mowgli did that once. A full shopping trolley for the week's shopping for four of us. Got to the checkout, queued, got to the front, "Sorry, I'm closed."
Same happened on the next till.
So she took everything out, dropped it on the floor and took the trolley out to get her €1 back.
Not one person came to see what was wrong.
Never shopped in Dunnes, Galway again.
(The only downside is that she then had to go to another shop and do a week's shopping all over again!)

sophie, Nah, just because I read more into the post than was actually written - a common mistake on this forum - I still think K.C's halo is in the right place and at the right angle. He helps more people in one way or another than anyone else I see posting here and always tries to be logical, can't complain at that and I am not even related to him - lol.

susiesusie. Quite agree but which price? The old advertised price, like "Flats for sale with full title for £39,000.00" or the real price which is only up to date via the bar code? It's easy really, when in doubt then go and check, for the majority of us it is not a big deal, it is not like we have high pressure jobs to rush back to. If you don't like it then leave and seek life elsewhere, you have the choice these days not like years ago when if you did not grab the single pack of butter off the top of the washing powder then you waited another two months for a re-supply. Enjoy life more.

Oh waddo, same goes with HP sauce, Heinz Baked Beans, BACON, and as for Lea and Perrins (I nearly killed someone for the last bottle on the shelf). People moving to this area for the first time, still have a moan. We waited over four months for the HP sauce boat to dock again. It only came out on high days and holidays!!

You can make your own curried beans as well - BUT - they just don't taste the same as the ones out of the tin! Have not seen any of them North or South for months now - wonder if they have been PC'd off the shelves - lol.

No, it has simply moved location - do you really think they have thrown away all the old stock and re-stocked everything with new? The shelving will have been moved from one place to another and the price tickets will have move along with them. Give them a chance to get sorted out first - then complain! Things move slower here I am pleased to say, if you want them to move faster then I would suggest that you are in the wrong place. It seems like everyone is complaining about everything moving too fast these days, new buildings, new pavements, faster and bigger cars, more choice of everything, places not keeping up with the times, etc, etc. Why? Is this what people came here for, to have the same pressures of life they have everywhere else? It beats me!

I am with you there Waddo moving fast spoils, I live in a small village in the UK now the Borough Council are asking farmers to release land for building houses, the village community atmosphere will disappear probably not in my life time but my children and grandchildren will miss out.

I am also with you Waddo, people should give the new Erdener a chance, it is a vast improvement on the old one, as much as we loved shopping there. People should stop criticising every time any attempts at improvement happen over here. We are a million miles further along than we were when we first came in 2000. Credit where it is due, please. And, just an aside on the price of products, not that I have priced everything of course, but for example if you are a Finlandia Vodka drinker....don't go to Supreme.....they have a 'special offer' 5 tl dearer than Erdener..... I believe all supermarkets over here no doubt either forget to change the prices, or maybe just don't bother.....If you don't like the price at the till then don't buy it.

I quite used to like it when most places had no small change, and if you were due anything that involved a coin smaller than a Lira, then you were awarded a box of matches or a sweet

Memorably, Frank Gillin once turned the tables (In Tempo, I think) and offered some of these items back to the cashier as part payment! - I can't remember what the outcome was, but I wish that I'd been there

Yes, RR.... but have you ever experienced anything like that in Sainsburys/Waitrose.....or any other UK supermarket or shop for that matter, I think not. Not sure what your reference to 'so few Brits' is all about...... And, actually, having spent the past 40 or so years visiting Turkey and enjoying the hospitality there... have very often come across 'pay me next time'.... but that has nothing to do with the new Erdener.

No you can't - if it tastes better, then it tastes different and thus is not HP sauce... I am prepared to grant that you make a superior sauce in every way.

No it was the old Erdener I was talking about not the new , and I was following Keith down memory lane. Going further down that lane I have not experienced it in Waitrose etc. but as a child in a small Yorkshire village it was the norm. I think the point is, if there is a point, that big is not necessarily beautiful, or better, and a small shop serving a known local community normally not only provides a better service for those whose expectations are not extravagant but on the whole better community care and relations

Will be interested to see that when they pull the old building down(nearly done) what sort of access they give. Have been told it will be an extended car park. Currently the road access is down the side of the Edener garage but this in my opinion is an accident waiting to happen. With this road,the main road to Ozankoy Village opposite and cars entering or leaving China Bazaar it's a very dangerous junction to use. Access further up the road would be more beneficial or of course a roundabout.
