Does anyone know who might be able to fix one of these where the rope has broken inside the wind up mechanism?

Yes, that happened to ours and we took it to a shop called Dogul(???) in Alsancak, just down from Ya Beles.

You can buy the replacement rope/cord from any yapi market. It's not a difficult job, just a bit fiddly. Please don't ask me though as I've got two of my own to repair when I can work up the enthusiasm
