Does anyone know of someone who can fix problems with a well? We have water but there is a problem with the pump system.

You need to pull the pump up from the well and get it tested or replaced if its not working, you don't need a well specialist for this job.

The problem can be an electrical fault with the pump or the capacitor (which is not housed in the pump as it is with a pool pump) or it could be that the pump is clogged. All wells gradually silt up and if the silt reaches the pump it will block it and probably ruin it - if this is the case you may have noticed a reduction in the water flow from the pump for a week or 2 before it stopped.

A well pump together with the cable and water pipe is extremely heavy and it would need 1 or 2 strong people to lift it. Even then you will have a problem to disconnect and take it to a repairer - even more to make a new waterproof connection when you re-install it. If you do get it out then take it to Press Teknik on the Alsancak/Lapta border - they are very good with pumps and not overly expensive. If you want to delegate the whole task then call Mehmet Gagari from Karsiyaka (0542 852 4940) who will sort everything for you - he even has people who will de-silt the well for you if that is the problem.

Thank you for the replies, - JBA I think yours is probably most helpful, as we are not entirely sure what the problem is.....the water runs, but only for a short while, about 30 secs, then stops.....then if we switch it off then back on again, it runs again for a short while....obviously something wrong that needs an expert I think. Thanks again.

This does sound like silt - you turn the pump on and it runs for 30 secs before clogging then turn it off and the silt drops back. I would suggest you don't turn it on again at the risk of blowing it completely - even so it could be beyond repair.
