RBL Poppy Riders Depart from The George on Thur at 10am

Hi all, the 17 cyclists who form the RBL Poppy Riders will be departing on their epic 'Touch the Roof of Cyprus' challenge at 10am this Thursday morning from The George in the middle of town (minus 1 rider who unfortunately broke his neck in an accident just 2 weeks before the event when he had an accident on his bike). It would be great if you could get there to see us off!
The average age of the group is 61.5 years (the oldest is 73 and the youngest 54) and we have all been training hard for 9 months for this blooming difficult challenge - to cycle to the top of Mount Olympus.
We finish at the Olive Press Bowling Club in Lapta at 2pm on Saturday afternoon which will be followed by a party. Again you are more than welcome to join us. There are still a few tickets left for the 4pm BBQ at 55TL, just phone the club on - 0533 880 1196. Or just turn up anyway to support us and enjoy the disco by DJ Dave Mancini and drinks at the bar.

There isn't one in Athens!

According to Wikipedia, there is one in Greece, located in the Olympus Range on the border between Thessaly and Macedonia, between the regional units of Pieria and Larissa, about 80 km (50 mi) southwest from Thessaloniki.

What route are the riders taking after leaving the George please. It would be nice to give them support along their route as well as at the start.

I hope you all complete safely , I was hoping to get there Friday to cheer you on. It at the mo laid up .

Hi, the cyclists will depart The George at 10am, heading towards the main car park to the Colony roundabout, then down the main high street past the front of the Savoy hotel, up to the HSBC bank then right at the roundabout onto the main coast road through Lapta & Karsiyaka, up the hill at the dam turning right through Camlibel, onto Guzelyurt and crossing the border at Bostanci. Heading to Kakopetria in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains. Staying overnight then commencing the big climb ever upwards for nearly 13 miles to the golf ball at the top of the Mountain, then back down to Kakopetria for the night. Heading back via the same route to the Olive Press on Saturday morning.
By the way the combined age of the 16 cyclists is 983!

We did it! All 16 cyclists got to the summit and back home again, what an adventure. Very, very proud of every one of them plus the support crew.
