Google Account Update - Message
Has anybody else had a notice on their google email account giving you 72 hours notice of renewal or else your account and all details will be lost.
Neither of us are ''all that'' with computers and we both wondered if this was for real before doing anything .
Thanking you for any help.

No. It looks like a phishing message. My advice would be to ignore it.bigbadbob wrote:Has anybody else had a notice on their google email account giving you 72 hours notice of renewal or else your account and all details will be lost.

BBB, when you say a 'Message', do you mean an email?
If it's an email, then hover your mouse pointer / cursor over the sender's name, and it will give you the actual email address from which the email was sent.
Pleasd tell us that email address.
p.s. I agree that it does sound like a 'phishing attempt' but it's always good to check...

That’s a bogus address. It is a phishing email as I said. Ignore and delete it.bigbadbob wrote:Yes Keith it is an email.

Thank you and will do!
What do they aim to achieve? It all looked very official.
Will get rid of it now.

They hope to get your gmail account information: i.e. password. You would, for example, have been asked to log in to a website which looked like it was an official gmail site, or to send your account details in an email to a bogus address.bigbadbob wrote:Thank you and will do!

Your gmail account can be used to unlock lots of other information when you think about it.
Never, ever trust any email unless you are certain of its origin. Keith gave you a good process on how to check an email address, and as you saw the real address had nothing to do with the purported sender. Email addresses can be spoofed very easily.

The other thing that they can do, once they have a password to go with your email address; is to try (using an automated process) that combination on thousands of commercial/banking websites, to see if you have used the same login details elsewhere (you obviously should not use any password on more than one website, but people do, nontheless) so that they can then access the financial side of your affairs
