Re: Petition - Lift the Embargo 2
It appears that I am too late to join this petition and I'm sorry that I missed it but here are my comments anyway.
The sheer injustice of this situation still prevailing is unacceptable.
Say what GC's like - the Greek EOKA at the behest of the Greek Genarals picked this fight but still, despite losing, after all of these years the GC's still expect that they should be able to dictate the settlement terms. Because, in EU, USA and elsewhere the GC's have such a strong lobby they are listened to whereas the TC's have no voice, nothing changes. i would really love to hear the private thoughts of Kofi Anan and those who have followed him in the roles of peace talk negotiators.
Turkey invaded the island to prevent the genocide of Turkish Cypriots. That is a known fact - why cannot it be acknowledged. by those who do have the power to put right this injustice.? Invaders would have taken the whole island not just the one third partition which roughly represented the balance of the respective populations.
We ex-pats can only speak as we find - In almost 14 years living on this island with time spent equally on both sides of the divide i have heard absolutely nothing by way of criticism, nastiness about the south side from the TC's whereas on that south side TC's are still referred to as 'dirty Turks' 'by many, and there remains bitter resentment which is fueled by the church who have such a powerful voice and influence even over the GC Gv't. It was the Church (and the schools whose pupils were told to tell their parents) to vote 'No' to the Anan Plan back in 2004. Significant that after being allowed to join the EU the South side were obliged to re-write their school history books about the war and the troubles.
Eu particularly should be ashamed of their spineless handling of this whole situation both at the time of the referendum and failure to live up to promises made to the TC's following upon a 'yes' vote at referendum time.

tingtang, I don't get the impression that you are 'too late', - we need another 109 signatures in the next 10 or 11 days - go for it! - and persuade all of your address book contacts to do the same

Re: Petition - Lift the Embargo 2
Re my previous post - to spare anyone needing to correct me on the first sentence I just noticed the previous post to my own which states there
remain 11 days to sign the petition together with a new link..
I had followed the link in Soner's original post which has now been closed.
Petition now signed and a small donation made.
