Another migrating birds sighting.
Another migrating birds sighting on Lapta Walkway. A large flock of silent, large, white birds heading west hugging coastline at 11.00 today. Perhaps Storks this time as they did not have extended necks as those we saw two days ago?

P. T. Barnum used to put up signs, "This way to the Egress", but I don't think it will help to identify those birds....

Almost certainly Little Egrets, other birds possible but this time of year the vast majority of migration flocks matching that description will be Little Egrets.
Cheers

Could be great white egrets...effonine wrote:Almost certainly Little Egrets, other birds possible but this time of year the vast majority of migration flocks matching that description will be Little Egrets.

When observing Dan, try and spot if the birds' necks are straight out in front... if they are not then almost certainly members of the heron family including egrets.

Large flock of white birds seen from Shana at Catalkoy. I have seen flocks of dark birds from this or nearby locations in past years, but this is the first time I have seen white ones. Too far to see much detail or perhaps hear them. I would have said geese, but from the above I guess they wer egrets.

Watched migrating birds many times from various seaside bars/restaurants,Egrets,Stork,Pelican Cranes etc. in TRNC. Usually around Alsancak,Lapta,Karsiyaka area. All seem to follow the same flight path. We have seen flocks going to roost at dusk in I think eucalyptus trees. Usually start their migration mid to late August.

Yes,Becer, I though they were later than usual this year. Presumably because the weather is staying hot longer ? Global warming?
