Not easy because of your dog.
Help is out there though.
You could contact KAR the animal charity here in the north for advice.
Good luck!

You can move your dog South to North however you can't move a dog North to South.

Stop at the border crossing. Let your dog out at the checkpoint.. Drive to the other side. Whistle your dog to come over - job done.....! Strays cross over all the time...

I believe the rules say no livestock to be taken over the boarder either way.

Please check with a VET

RAZR63, I hope your reply was tongue in cheek?? I understand some people have been known to drug their animal and cross both ways with it in the boot, but it's a hell of a risk to take.

Our cat and dog were brought over here from the UK by a UK courier, a South Cyprus courier and KAR, they flew into Larnaca and were handed over to KAR at the border where all documentation was checked by a vet.

I brought a shipment into Larnaca and drove it North ( Via pyla) big mistake was simply refused entry and was turned around. After several weeks of research and a couple of meetings with a lady in Lefcosia we obtained a letter to enable import from the south. We were then advised to come via Metehan which we did and after a courtesy look and inspection of the letter was waved through. It was a large high top van and contained furnishing TVs etc art work and the likes Hi Fi systems and were not asked to show proof of purchase costs etc.

In a nutshell you need the appropriate letter of approval from the North. This was however 5 years ago almost so no idea if things have got easier. Not much help I am sure but main point is you would be advised to seek appropriate paperwork. Alternatively bring it over a bit at a time ( not via Pyla) and hopefully be waved through ( unlikely in my opinion).
Good luck as I found it a complete nightmare although achievable

Hi Poppy, we moved over from south to north 3 years ago with two dogs. We used Columbia Movers and with help from KAR moved the dogs over it is tedious but achievable. With the dogs the government vet met us at the border and after a cursory check said meet me in my office a day later and we got the paperwork required. We had to house quarantine them for 28 days, but nobody checked. We did have to get the mandatory rabies jabs and pet passport to cross over if that is all well should be no problem. The major problem was with customs, told by Columbia to take all paperwork to the relevant offices a couple of days before the move to ease the crossing on the day. Yeah right, did all that and still took 6 hours at customs in Nicosia to get the 3 vans through with all our kit. Make sure when you move you employ the services of an agent at the customs offices saves a lot of aggro. If you need more info please private message me and I will see what I can help you with.

Sophie, I quite often see RoC registered vehicles with dog's in them on this side - wonder how they come and go? Have even seen them get off the tourist buses from the South but in all cases they have only been small dogs. I would not take the chance in any case but it seems it's one law for one side and a different one for the other side.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

It was a joke we love our dog far to much to risk anything happening to him
