Hi Looseboots, the Olive press is on the Lapta to Karsiyaka road. It is signposted, not far past the sign for the Olive press bowling green.
I have no idea of the cost though.

Are there any olive presses on the 'East side' or is that the only one?
It is a shame, as I am sure there was one in every village at one time-I know there is a derilict on on Bellapais that looks ripe for renovation.
Given that olive oil is quite a valuable commodity- why did they all go out of business?

People pay a fortune for the speciality stuff in the US and UK-there must be a market for low volume good quality oil.

I have considered how practical it would be to construct a small, domestic olive press.

I assume you would need something much heftier than a wine press give that olives are tougher than grapes and have stones in them.

I would be in the market for a small domestic olive press- does anyone make them?

Actually I heard only this lunchtime the olive press in Ozankoy has reopened. Havent seen it myself yet - must remember to have a look tomorrow. Difficult to describe its next to the car repairers where they are always working on cars in the road- do you know what the Rose Garden Restaurantt is, or the Happy Garden? I

I havent seen the new machinery , but if the old one was anything to go by (talk about being between the upper and nether millstones!) - dont try this at home. Anyway far too much competition - just the fun of having the oil from your own olives.

I gather the people running the mill dont speak English!

Looseboots,

If no one comes up with an olive press near you on the east side then there is one opposite the Sanayi industrial estate in Karaoglanoglu (just a couple of doors down from Ian Smith Estate Agents).

I don't know the opening times but can check this week as I am passing and will post on here if it is any help.

The one in Catalkoy village is used as a display room during our festival, all the machinery is still there but no longer used

The olive press at Karsiyaka opens around 7.30am & in the busy season goes on till quite late in the evening.
They work on a numbered system so first come first served.
It is better to go very early as there can be upward of 20 people already waiting.
It takes about 30-40 mins for the process & they process two consignments at once.
Last year they charged 2tl per litre of oil.

I am delaying my harvest untill the 18th Nov because due to little rainfall the yield is not yet enough.
If anyone is interested & maybe only has a small quantity of olives I will exchange your olives for olive oil. The exchange ratio varies as the season advances. i.e. The later in the year the better the yield will be although the quality will not quite as good.
If anyone has old olive trees & needs to have them pruned after harvest I can do that for you in exchange for some wood.
I live in Catalkoy & no money changes hands.

Sounds a bit complicated working 2 lots together..................how do they work out which oil is who`s???

Can anyone confirm if it is new machinery or a price..............otherwise it might be better to go to the hi tech one in Karsiyaka.

Just to let everyone know......back from the Olive press in Ozankoy.

Hmmmm...........it is the traditional mill stone grinder..............but thought......hey ho.............save on petrol by not going further afield so will give it a go.
Man spoke a little English.............so good start...........they had a couple of batches to process so he said be about an hour and half. Went back.............1 more hour maybe.

This time my oil was ready.

Had about 80 kilos in weight and got back approximately 12 litres of good quality extra virgin oil ( little bit less than expected) . Price charged..........TL16.

So all in all ,with the convenience factor logged in, not a bad deal.

Like to support the locals when i can.

I have 4 Mature olive trees with a good crop that I am unable to harvest this year.
They are in Zeytinlik.
Anyone interested in picking and getting pressed?
