Do it yourself. It's not difficult. You need a copy of your contract with the supplier, copy of kojan, probably photo copy of passport and a receipt for a fire extinguisher and go to District Office, next to Girne Hospital. In through front door past desk, turn left and first office on left. Two or more lovely ladies in there will deal with your application. They will arrange fire brigade inspection and then you can return and collect your permit. Assuming a new tank then one years payment is about 60tl.

All permits are renewed on or after 1st January, so it might be an idea to wait until very early in the New Year.

Thanks for replies, much appreciated. I will wait until January. My case is not so straight forward, tank too near house, no contract in my name etc.

Steve, I had same problem last year, I had contract in previous owners name, I called gas supplier, they sent out a guy to look at installation, he said tank was in wrong place and advised me to move it, when I pointed out that if I moved it to the position he advised then they would not be able to fill it he said ok, let's see what the fire department have to say, they charged quite a lot for this service, they sent the new contract via e-mail a few days later. I had no problem with fire department

Dave G. My tank is 1,750 litres. My builder paid a deposit of 1000tl 12 years ago. They tell me that because it is in the builders name that it needs to be transferred to mine and that now this tank costs 2,100 tl so that if I can get the builder to sign a transfer I will only have to pay the difference of 1100tl. Why should I have to pay anything at all as the cost of the deposit was paid when asked for? Iy beggers belief.
