Scenario 1 - on arrival in ROC (Larnaca, Paphos, wherever), the question is asked, "Where are you staying?" and the answer given is "In the ROC" (even if untrue), will the ROC officials then require/demand proof i.e. address/hotel details which they will then check for verification or otherwise? A time and resource-costly procedure...

What precisely - in "The Green line agreement between the RoC and the EU" - are the terms for crossing of EU nationals and third party nationals? In which case -

Scenario 2 - Having stated (untruthfully!) on arrival in the ROC that they are staying in the ROC, persons attempt to cross the Green Line to the TRNC - will/can ROC officials (after checking with the entry point for verification of statement made on arrival) forcibly prevent such crossing? Perhaps the ROC could prevent a return crossing from the TRNC, but from the south to the north?

Possibly two very different cases....?

In the eye's of the RoC, if you say you are staying in the RoC but don't say where then even if you are staying in the TRNC you have not told any lie??? This because the RoC claim the whole Island but call the part of which they have no control "Occupied Territories" - catch 22 rules!!
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

waddo wrote:"To antagonize these cash cow tourists would be counter productive. Its all about the money." So why antagonize those "cash cow", permanent dwellers in the TRNC that wish to spend their cash in the RoC, that is also counter productive but the RoC don't seem to care about the continued finance that flows North to South at all. In a lot of cases the TRNC is it's own worst enemy, they allow the RoC coach's into the North but the South will not allow the TRNC coach's into the South. Try getting a mixed coach across the border - by mixed I mean some Turkish Cypriots an some EU citizens - not allowed to happen - why? All of the passengers can be EU passport carrying citizens but it is still not allowed.

I think that the RoC will do absolutely everything within it's power - and even try things that are not in it's power - to prevent any non EU passport holder from crossing at any of the crossing points in either direction once the UK has left the EU. They do not care about the financial loss, they care about causing disruption and trouble for the North and they will do it in the hopes that the current flock of EU passport holding UK citizens will stop holidaying in the North altogether. You can call me as cynical as you like - I will wait and see.
This has long been my point when the BREXIT referendum was under debate on this forum. The effect upon Ex pats living on Cyprus and in particular those in the TRNC is profound.
The surrender of EU status was largely ignored in preference to the massive amount of NEW money to be released to the NHS and also the anti immigration propaganda. ( the whole of turkey would emigrate to the UK)
Now of course the new financial divorce settlement that the UK is being forced into sheds the true light on our vulnerable position. The UK desperately needs a trade deal and is clearly willing to buy its way into a deal.
The UK hand , in my view, becomes weaker with time and I see many many penalties and on going costs for decades to come.
Sorry folks but its no rose garden for the UK from now on in.

waz-24-7, Whilst I personally support your views over Brexit, this discussion is not about Brexit at all only in that it is the catalyst for the discussion. Can I ask that we keep to the discussion points and leave the whole issue of Brexit to another post entirely?

To bring it back on line - we are discussing/debating what "May" happen when current UK EU citizens become "Third World Nationals" in the eyes of the EU - how that comes about is not for debate.

At this time it is all "Pie in the Sky" and nobody actually knows what will happen regarding entry to the TRNC via RoC points of entry to the Island, additionally, it is unsure - possibly due to previous "Commonwealth" status if the RoC can or would wave the requirement for EU passports for British subjects to pass North to South. Based on all the actions of the RoC in the past I think the British are in for a rude awakening, once they become Non-EU citizens post Mar 2019, if they attempt to use Green Line crossing points in either direction.

waddo, you a 'cynic', never and perish such a thought. I share your thought on possible RoC/TRNC transit later though as I experienced such frustration in Gibraltar on two separate tours there when the Spanish threw hissys. Hey ho, it's only rock 'n roll after all!

The ROC in the main continues to hinder and attack the TRNC at every opportunity.
The clear strategy when it comes to investors and supporters wherever they may hail from is to antagonise and frighten people from visiting the TRNC, so isolating further the region.
Currently EU citizens have free right of entry and or passage through the ROC. Non EU citizens are less fortunate and if the ROC immigration choose they can hinder stop or detain aliens who have nil citizen rights or do not have required credentials.

Aliens passing across the green lane are easy and soft targets for ROC Immigration. Computer recording of passports at border crossing points now facilitate a hit list of potentials.

So Yes indeed, UK citizens will be classed as aliens and line up as such. The increased risk is without question in my view.
