Re: Sweet mincemeat
Just make your own. Put a little extra alcohol in the mixed fruit with grated apple, chopped walnuts/ almonds and lots of grated orange rind. Add a little mixed spice and cinnamon. Use butter instead of suet if you can't find any Atora. Tastes better anyway.

Re: Sweet mincemeat
So what was wrong with the recipe from Fatouche? I thought that was rather insensitive of you.

Re: Sweet mincemeat
Maybe there is a really simple and possibly quicker one on the Internet. You never know. I still have a jar left, but it would take a kings ransom to buy it from me though!! However I have made some little apple pies, with cinnamon and some raisins mixed in and they are very popular. I call it Mincemeat for Dummies.

Re: Sweet mincemeat
My Nan used to make itto the original recipe with meat. (hence the name mincemeat). Either minced Beef or Minced Tongue, mixed with her home made mix. Sounds strange but they were excellent.
When I make my own I use cooking apples, seedless raisins, sultanas, currants, chopped candied peel, soft brown sugar, shredded suet or butter, flaked or chopped almonds, lemon juice and grated lemon rind and ditto orange. Mixed spice, and either brandy, whisky, or rum. ( I think brandy's best)
A friend got me 4 jars from the South today, in comparison to the ones I was buying from Illeli. Identical . Robertson's. The South are almost double the price.
