I am interested to hear how people who returned to the UK got on with insuring a car after spending a few year outside
the UK.

We are in the process so when I rang my last insurance company they said because two years had elapsed I would have to start again. Some other companies i.e. Tesco will go to three years but you obviously would have to go with them again. So for us, all no claims lost and start again!

Best way to get insurance after losing no claims,go online to someone like Go Compare. Found some for 50% less than our original company quoted.

Hi, I'm going to be travelling in the opposite direction in the new year. And I will be looking for insurance in Northern Cyprus and I was wondering how does the cost compare to the UK is Cyprus cheaper more expensive, about the same.

We find it to be cheaper - given dreadful accident stats here one can only conclude that UK insurance companies are ripping off the motorist...

I do appreciate that repair costs here are substantially lower... as is fuel and servicing.

Try NFU. I used to insure with them in the UK and they were really excellent. Recommended them to a friend who was returning after 6 years here and they gave him the full no claims that he had before he left. They gave him a 90 day cover note just to give him a chance to get a letter from his insurance company in Cyprus confirming that he had not had any accidents whilst here. Any National Farmers union office will deal with insurance.

Another alternative is Norwich Union (Aviva Group), you can find out online here - https://www.aviva.co.uk/contact-us/

Whatever you do make certain that you obtain proof of your duration of cover and no claim record (from the underwriting insurer and not the Broker or Agecy) before you leave the island.
