For those who like to follow the news:
Turkey is poised for an imminent massive ground invasion of Northern Syria to quash Kurdish militia groups currently holding Afrin near the Turkish border. Multiple regional outlets have reported a build-up of forces that could constitute the largest external intervening force thus far in the entirety of the Syrian war.

Regardless of what one thinks of Turkey. The US have no business there, they were not invited by Assad, the Russians have dealt with ISIS . The coalition funded the so called 'moderate militants' and now backing the Kurds because they want to carve up Syria due to its strategic position. Once again the US are expressing their 'exceptionalism' which really is Empire. Look at all the other so-called 'wars' and intervention - how as that worked out????

Have to agree entirely with you he is dragging Turkey down a very slippery slope.

Syria is really not happy with Turkey's move on Afrin, unsurprisingly!

Re: Heads up on Turkish Military at the Syrian Border
it's a complicated situation, quite the quagmire - and although Russia has for the most part eradicated Daesh/ISIS - the USA remains in Syria and in increasing numbers. The Kurds are in a difficult position, as they exist in Iraq, Syria, Iran and Turkey. The USAs goal is to get rid of Bashar al-Assad, Syria's president and carve up the country.
IMO, their (USA) presence in Syria is a violation of Syria's sovereignty, and it should be the decision of the Syrian people who they choose to be their leader. It's their alliance with Iran - and that's what troubles Israel and thus the USA.
If I were Erdogan, I'd be concerned also for my sovereignty... look what happened in Libya, Iraq, Syria... the water is still boiling.

The Turks will no doubt suffer some form of an increase in underhand economic sanctions, these are no doubt presently on going as Turkey is in rapid economic decline, this is the west turning the screw to bring Erdogan to heel. We can only see Edogan using the conflict to direct attention away from Turkeys inevitable economic collapse, and further blackmail the EU, with refugee movement into Greece. The touch paper is being lit, let the fireworks begin.
