I believe that Akay Optics sell Rolex so I would be surprised if they couldn't service your watch. I have used them for other good makes and they have been fine.

Agobard is probably correct. I took a high end watch to them and they repaired and cleaned it. Two years later and no problems.

It lasted a couple of years, believe it or not. I'm not sure it was genuine though. I believe real ones are slightly more expensive.

I can beat that Mark, I bought one in Singapore in 1988 and it lasted until1997, it cost me about £3.50 at the time .

I bought one in Tangiers for about £10, and the Arab that sold it to me assured me that it was genuine!

I bought a Rolex Oyster copy from the Watch Shop, in what we used to call Mushroom Street, in Girne, the right turn on the High St. before the crossroads, 17 years ago!!!. It's been in the pool, in the shower etc. and never missed a beat. I think it's had three batteries in that time and keeps perfect time too.

just last week, I took it in there for a new battery and commented on how old it was to the chap and he said they always make sure that their copies are good ones but even he was impressed. Has served me well in getting good service all over the world to those "not in the know". I love it.

I bought a Tag Heur (spelling?) from the Watch Man and it was absolutely' fabulous. You mustn't look too closely though because the three small dials were completely false and of course didn't work at all. As I wasn't a pilot and wasn't interested in how high I was flying it didn't matter. Some "ooops" half inched it in the end. I always buy Mens watches from him as they appear to be more genuine than ponsy little glittery ones!!

Exactly Keith. Just for the fun of it. And what's the point of paying thousands of ££££s or whatever and then being too scared or under insured to wear the darn thing anyway. After all, they just tell the time - don't they?!!! Or is it a statement of something?

What I meant was this - probably a lot of the reasons for buying an original could be satisfied by buying a copy (the downside would be the quality of materials and workmanship ) plus, there are the advantages pointed out by SourBrandy!

There are knock offs and there are knock offs. I've paid 400tl for a Chanel, YSL, Burberry or whatever bag when I could have bought "identical" for 60tl at Lambousa Market. I have a friend who buys nothing but originals and was spitting feathers because she could not find any improvement on her original and my 400tl one purchased in Antalya. Its beautifully made and still looks and weighs the same as the genuine, 6 years later. I have to be perfectly honest and say that if I had the money I would buy genuine watches but never a Rolex, they are not understated enough for my taste. Too glitzy.

Some might argue that price charged by top brands is also organised crime... as in, not reflecting manufacturing costs plus a reasonable mark-up.

The difference with that is charging a high fee for genuine products is not a crime, supplying fake goods is a crime which funds organised crime.

Does that also apply to “stealing” TV programmes via VPN, I wonder?

If you have the Apple TV box 4K UHD Box you should be able to get itv hub, BBC, C4, My 5 Netflix and prime video .
However what you will need to do is get yourself a VPN Router, Asus is very good as you don’t know need to flash any
further firmware.
You will also need to subscribe to a VPN service but those are not expensive, sometimes if there is an offer you might be lucky and get two years for the price of one.
I find that when I watch programmes through the Apple box I very rarely get any buffering.
Also using a paid for VPN I find the speeds more stable.
You can also of course get all the above services through an Apple product.

Using a VPN is not a crime, watching tv through a VPN is not a crime, However it is possibly against the suppliers terms and conditions.
Further, VPN companies are regulated as a business and therefore legal and it is unlikely that the money I pay to a VPN
service is going into organised crime.

But from what you've said about needing to use a VPN, those Companies - Sky, BBC, Netfix etc, don't have a licence to show those programmes in this Country - they haven't paid for a licence to do it, and are under an obligation to try to stop people from stealing the 'Intellectual Property' of others or infringing their Copyright or Distribution Rights, whichever is applicable.

It doesn't matter whether you have paid to watch the programmes in the UK by effectively lying about where you live, and then cheating the system by using a VPN, you haven't paid for the right to watch them in TRNC - so you are actually stealing that privilege, and robbing the Copyright holders.

I'm not saying that I don't do exactly the same thing, but I do think that you ought to 'fess up' and stop being all 'Holier than Thou' about fake watches etc...

With regards to Netflix it is perfectly legal to watch it in TRNC you don’t even need a VPN to watch it. Same with Amazon
Prime.
The BBC Etc sell certain programmes to other countries and so long as a payment is made to whoever makes the programme I am sure they are happy, but in any case organised crime is not benefitting from what is a legal minefield.
The other point is ( with your comment about fake watches) what I am doing is not funding organised crime as any monies I Pay are to legitimate businesses.

A Rolex watch should ideally only be serviced by an authorised Rolex dealer and the dealer stamps the paperwork to say its been serviced correctly (like a car) this also helps maintain the value ...there is only one dealer on the Greek side or Istanbul where there are a few options....
