MULTI-MAX TV & INTERNET - IS IT ANY GOOD?
Would be interested to know consumers' opinions of MULTI-MAX TV and Internet package
as we are considering buying. What minimum internet speed is required for TV?
If you are downloading does this affect the TV? Can you run both together?
Do you get good reception of the English TV channels? Your comments would be
appreciated.

If you do a search for both the TV and internet you will find some very happy customers. I have the internet, and never had a problem.

Re: MULTI-MAX TV & INTERNET - IS IT ANY GOOD?
Multimax's internet is excellent as many previous questions on the same subject have confirmed.
My own TV package is up for renewal, and I have thought long and hard about the multimax offering.
What is stopping me(and I am dithering)is that there are ,occasionally 'internet outages' here- not the fault of Multimax, but because of some issue with the infrastructure.
If this happens, then you lose both your TV and Internet-and have to resort to either reading, taking the dog for a walk(if you have one),singing jolly songs around an upright piano Victorian style, or, God forbid, talking to your partner/spouse.
I will renew my Mutimax internet package, but as far as I am concerned the Jury is out on the combined package until the infrastructure is spot on.
Tin hat at the ready.

Yes Philoz the 'internet outages' is one of my concerns like you say you lose both T.V as well as internet, is it worth losing both? probably not, also I don't know and was hoping somebody would come up with the answer is the internet and t.v. package linked by one connection ? or are they on separate connections ? IF your downloading something on the internet would it considerably effect the T.V. which you're also downloading ?

Hi. I work for Multimax, so I will not comment on the general question of the thread but I will try and answer the specific question above.WotNoDeeds wrote: IF your downloading something on the internet would it considerably effect the T.V. which you're also downloading ?
The short answer is yes.
The slightly fuller answer is that the TV takes upto 2mbs of your connection. It is not a 'constant bit stream' of 2mbs and will vary according to the actual content but can peak up to 2mbs. For TV customers we say they need to get a 5mbs service on the internet side. So on a pure numbers approach, when watching TV you internet connection is slower to around 3mbs. So you can generaly web browse , email and other such stuff at the same time as watching TV. However if you are downloading and depending on how you download you may need to restrict the max download speed to 3mbs or less whilst watching TV to ensure the download does not affect the TV picture. If you went for the 10mbs internet service , then you could download other stuff at upto 8mbs without it impacting the TV service, but over 8mbs could potentialy affect the TV stream.

This is a legit question and Erol's answer is technically correct, but:erol wrote:Hi. What we do is that if a customer is on 2 or 2.5mbps connection, we upgrade them to 5Mbps free of charge, if the customer is on 5Mbps, we currently offer them 3 months free on their Internet if they sign up for NTV package.
Seperating TV traffic from Internet traffic has not yet been implemented, because out of hundreds of NTV customers we have had so far, this has almost never been an issue. Regular internet traffic almost never affects NTV. Only very heavy downloads have a potential to affect TV (like if you are also streaming more than one videos from the Internet and at the same time, downloading a number of files/movies in the background).
There are a number of ways to seperate TV traffic from Internet that can be implemented if necessary and our customer premises equipment as well as our system in general does support them. This can be implemented en masse if necessary or one by one where it is required.

Re: MULTI-MAX TV & INTERNET - IS IT ANY GOOD?
Hi Kemnal I had the NTV installed last Tuesday and so far I am a little dissapointed in the system. The tv does keep freezing and for a period last night I lost all tv channels. I did a speed test and ended up with .97kbs. Did a speed test early thi s morning and got 1.98mbs. A second speed test shortly after gave me 6.3mbs. Is there any problem with the Tatlisu transmitter or is ther too much contention on the bandwidth? I was going to call into the Esentepe office this morning but you may be able to save me a trip
thanks
Mick

Hi Kemal,
I have "only" a 4mb Multi-Max connection. Should I up-grade to 5mb to improve my NTV and internet? I currently experience only slight freezing but I would like to eliminate that.

Re: MULTI-MAX TV & INTERNET - IS IT ANY GOOD?
Hello Mick,
I would like to use your message as an example (hope you do not mind) and make a few pointers for all customers.
--------
1. You say you have had our system since Tuesday and been disappointed, however, I find no record on our call logs or email records that you have reported any problems to Multimax. It is very important for customers to report us problems as soon as they happen so that we can look into it, identify the problem and fix it.
2. You mention a couple of speedtest results with no details on where they were done from, or any confirmation that all other traffic and the NTV box was turned off while performing the tests. It is very important to follow basic guidelines for speedtesting for it to be having any value as information for troubleshooting. a) Always close all downloads/streams/NTV box before you conduct the tests, always note test times, always test from our server for better accuracy (http://mmx.tc/speedtest), and if you are getting poor results through wireless connection, always try to connect with cable direct to eliminate indoor wireless router problem issues from the equation.
3. Do not come around making assumptions (we have this a lot with phone support, email and others. Customers call and instead of giving us their info and reporting their own issues, they enter conversation by saying, what is the problem with xxx), just state your issues and your name and let our technical team to look into it. There is no problem with Tatlisu transmitter, even if there was it wouldnt mean anything to you as you are not even connected to the Tatlisu transmitter. the term contention is something thats left over from dialup internet and doesnt even apply to our system.
4. Last but not least: Esentepe office, along with all other 4 office (Kyrenia, Lefkosa, Guzelyurt and Famagusta) are Sales Offices. Of course all office will listen to your inquiry and forward it to the Technical Dept. but things are a lot more efficient if you contact support directly. Call 0548 888 6629, email us info@multimaxcyprus.com, live chat with us on our website http://www.mmcyp.com . All are efficient means of receiving technical support depending on the urgency of your issue.
--------------------
Your specific problem turned out to be as follows: you were on 2mb connection before you subscribed to NTV and it was supposed to be upgraded to 5MB package and somehow it did happen in the backend, once we have received your inquiry, it was processed through (took us approx 24 seconds) and all should be ok now. Please contact us if you still experience any issues.

Re: MULTI-MAX TV & INTERNET - IS IT ANY GOOD?
Hi Kemnal, many thanks for your reply I did go to esentepe and Seran sent a mail to sort the problem out. I am not one of these people who expect instant and perfect connections which is why there are no logs of complaints from me. I waited for the sytem to settle itself to see if it improved, Unfortunately it did not. I saw your reply to thisa thread and hoped you would still be on line for a prompt reply to save a jouney to esentepe.
I do not make any assumptions. My microwave dish is pointed towards the crossroads at Tatlisu where you engineer said was the Tatlisu base station for your system. Whilst I admit the NTV box was switched on but the tv was not. I tried 4 different test sites to give you an indication of the speeds which were being attained.
I am not quite an internet idiot and in fact was one of the triallists in the UK when Demon first introduced Broadband to the U.K. and I know from that that contention can be quite an issue which was why I asked. One of the speed test sites I tried was in fact spped test.net which is the one you use on your site.
We do not watch a great deal of TV but we got fed up with the hour long adverts on Nilesat.
Just for you information Kemnal, when the engineers arrived to install NTV they could not as the account for NTV had not been set up and the person who could set it up was out of the office their car having broken down. I sorted the rest of the installation out.
I have Multimax broadband since last December and have always extolled its virtues to any one interested obtaining professional broadand here and I have nothing but praise for your company. When I wrote to say I was a little dissapointed with the system so far which is most unlike my experience with your broadband but had already decided to visit Esentepe in an attempt to resolve the problem as not being a natural Turkish speaker I find it easier to talk face to face to explain my problems.
I am very pleased for your customers who did not have problems with their instalation but having spent £600 I feel I was entitled to be a little dissapointed unti the situation was resolved. I thank you for your comments that the problem has been fixed and look forward to enjoying NTV over the weekend. Should there be any further problems I will of course let you staff kn ow sooner.
Best wishes
Mick

Saturdays are usually quiet for all our offices, I am sure Seran was thrilled to see you walk in, I didnt want to steal that away from her by replying earliermickhm wrote:Hi Kemnal, many thanks for your reply I did go to esentepe and Seran sent a mail to sort the problem out. We have a basestation right at the crossroads that we named 'Junction' in addition to a further away one called Tatlisu. You are connected to the former one. NTV box, unless powered down by the power button, may still stream from our servers even if the TV is on.mickhm wrote: I do not make any assumptions. We use the same tool that is available on speedtest.net website, however, unlike our test which tests your connection from you to our main location in Lefkosa, speedtest.net tests your connection to various locations on the internet. Speedtest.net tries to find the closest server automatically sometimes and this especially may pose an issue for us. As MM customers show up as in 'Cyprus' sometimes testing can be done to a server in the South Side, as we do not have direct connections with south, may cause low results. Need to make sure to use speedtest against a server in the North or choose a location in Turkey.mickhm wrote: I am not quite an internet idiot and in fact was one of the triallists in the UK when Demon first introduced Broadband to the U.K. and I know from that that contention can be quite an issue which was why I asked. We have sinced trained 2 more people at our head end and a total of 3 people are now capable of setting up NTV accounts.mickhm wrote: Just for you information Kemnal, when the engineers arrived to install NTV they could not as the account for NTV had not been set up and the person who could set it up was out of the office their car having broken down. This is all ok and understandable, however, from our perspective it is much easier to identify problems out exactly when they happening and also maybe speak to you and test a few things on the fly.mickhm wrote: I have Multimax broadband since last December and have always extolled its virtues to any one interested obtaining professional broadand here and I have nothing but praise for your company. Yes, I am a Multimax customer, I wouldn't have posted on this thread had I not been. No I didn't contact Multimax support as I just felt that it would sort itself out and may have been a weather issue. I have just done another speed test and it was 2.5 and that was with NTV on, so perfectly acceptable at the moment. The tests I did when I had less than 1 was with the NTV box turned off, but I didn't note the times I did this, which I will do in future. Are you a Multimax customer? Have you called Multimax Support or contacted us in any way? Need a name to look into it. K.

Is there a general NTV outage in Malatya/Alsancak area this morning?
My TV screen just shows a page titled " Page loading error".
I am in Malatya and I checked with a pal in Alsancak who is also experiencing the same thing.
TIA
Vaughan
p.s. Thanks for the upgrade to 5mb.

Re: MULTI-MAX TV & INTERNET - IS IT ANY GOOD?
Kemal,
We signed up for the 5mb internet package and have had fluctuating speeds. Previously we were with Nethouse. Our connection with them was under 2mb so thought upgrading to 5mb would be a lot better as we currently use a wireless connection and I use a laptop and my better half a notebook.
I realise that this reduces the speed using both devices at the same time but sometimes the notebook struggles to work at any speed at all.
When the internet came back on this morning the speed was really fast, maybe because people did not realise it was back.
Have to confess I have not sent e.mail to the info e.mail address although I did send you an e.mail on 29.10.12
We live near the Cratos and wonder is there is a problem with the base station there?
Will e.mail tomorrow to get our line checked.

Re: MULTI-MAX TV & INTERNET - IS IT ANY GOOD?
Firstly, thanks to all the people who replied to our post - your comments were useful and informative. We have just a
few more queries regarding the TV package. Do you receive the British TV programs at the same time as they are broadcast in
in the UK (allowing for the time difference)? Are all programs on the MULTI-MAX listed channels available
or just selected ones? Does the N in NTV stand for Nilesat and why does someone comment "we got fed up with
the hour long adverts on Nilesat?" Any further info would be appreciated.

Yes, you get all the programmes the same time as shown in the UK, i.e. the 10 o'clock news there is on at midnight here. There is also a 'catch-up' system, where you can watch programmes you've missed, although this is fairly new and at the moment doesn't seem to work on all programmes. You can also record programmes via a USB memory stick.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Kemal. You men have just left. They had to replace the cable. At the moment all working OK.
Point is , they came when they said they would , so fair enough.
Fingers crossed internet connection and speed will be ok now.

Re: MULTI-MAX TV & INTERNET - IS IT ANY GOOD?
'N' in NTV is loosely related to Net or Network, 'Network TV' meaning no need for a satellite dish.WotNoDeeds wrote:Firstly, thanks to all the people who replied to our post - your comments were useful and informative.
NTV UK package is currently based on the Sky UK package and also Free to Air channels like BBC and ITV
