Thought we would try the new eastern end of Lapta coastal path. Be very carefull.!! The decking on the bridges that are finished are warping badly. Nearly had a nasty fall. Keep to the edges is my advice. Always enjoy our walks on this path with a snack stop at Ziggy's cafe. will be great when it's all finished

The bridge near the gym wasn't opened when we came home from our 3 month stay, it looks a bit steep and could be dangerous when wet. We too enjoy the walk and did it at least once a week sometimes twice saw the bridge being erected in stages, and of course couldn't miss our stop at Ziggy's a lovely man and so kind.

The workmanship on the latest stretch of the Coastal Path including the bridge is certainly as bad as anything ever constructed in the TRNC. The wooden decking on the bridge opposite the Silver Rocks Restaurant is like a trampoline & the supporting iron work is awful with large gaps at the beginning & end & extremely hazardous. The paved pathway already has numerous loose blocks & many sprouting weeds. To the side of the walkway the landscape is like the surface of the moon with rubble just bulldozed into unsightly piles.
What should be a wonderfully attractive way to access the coastline is in fact an embarrassement with standards that would not be tolerated virtually anywhere in the world.
When you look along the Kyrenia Mountain range & appreciate what nature has created & then look at this man made eyesore it is very depressing the only upside is that it will not be very long before it all falls to bits.
Whoever is responsible for overseeing the construction should be ashamed.
I believe this path was sponsored by the EU...they should demand a refund.

Who would refund the EU?

There is a quote, "when in Rome -------". If the locals are content with the quality, who are expats to bemoan their expectations or standards? There is, of course, the option of not using the path at all.

The money has long gone so they have to finish it on a shoestring or they won't be able to con the EU out of any more money

Has the sign gone to say do not walk on it? I understood it is not finished yet and only Tuesday watched the workman (and his Rottweiler) working on it...... So maybe we should wait until the official opening or have I missed that??

The dreadful eyesore across the Silver Rocks skyline has been closed. Would be great if they take it down.

Sounds like it might fall down, Rita. Save the bother.

Would be nice to have one legitimate walk across it first though.

Nonna,
Can you inform us as to who in authority you have reported the problems.
The names of who you spoke to, the problems you highlighted and the standards they should adapt would I am sure help anyone else who wished to make an official complaint.

Not at all, however, I am sick to the back teeth with evangelical expats telling locals how to behave, what religion to follow (missionaries), what standards to adhere to et al. If the locals want change, let them effect it not some sanctimonious expat's view.

Did you not realise that a forum is a medium where ideas & views on a particular issues can be exchanged & which in this case is the standard of construction of a coastal path & bridge. Where you think religion & evangelism comes into that i have no idea. Perhaps in the forums case you should take your own advise... you don't have to use it.

You obviously think I am an ignoramus. Even if I did not not know what a forum was, I could research the word via the internet. Your view that locals must/should adhere to expats (I assume from the UK) standards/views is an anathema to me and that is my view and expressed to me as such by several locals who are fed up being told what they should do/be in their own country. You do not share it and that is your prerogative, which I respect, even if I do not agree with you. I enjoy and appreciate forum exchange, whereas you obviously do not enjoy a similar experience on the Lapta Walkway. Ergo, don't go there!

So nonna , if you have not done anything about it does that not mean ‘ apathy reins ‘ on your part ? Just an observation.

I do agree with you, it was great to share your thoughts but the work has not yet finished and someone must have removed the signs to say do not use the bridge..... Certainly is dangerous at the moment but once opened officially I think it will be a different story and a fabulous walk for us who appreciate it.........

Thank you Mimi2 for your report. I have not dared to venture it yet. I think maybe the very nice Mayor of Lapta, Fuat Namsoy would be interested in the views of the forum. He really does seem to care about the expat views.

13roman58, have you ever spoken to Mr Namsoy? We have and he genuinely does care about ex pat views. Surprisingly, I am in the same world as you but obviously I enjoy my life here and the welcoming people
