I'm UK but my "benefits" are increasing from 9th April & must be the biggest increase I've had......... just spent 10 mins treble checking & it is a tad over 11%. Makes up for last year when I got 30p/w

My new rate starts on the 12th of April - part of the joy of having a "W" as first letter of surname - lol. Wonderful increase of £200.00 a year, shame my tax has gone up by £157.00 a year at the same time but at least I will enjoy the delights of a £43.00 annual increase.

I opted for it to be paid every week. True to form they pay it every 28 days and won't now change it to weekly. Every 28 days is a pain but at least I still get it so put up with it.

There should be on the old scheme but The new scheme is only for newly retired people. Seems I am about 3 years too old.

All pensioners should get paid the same if they have paid their contributions in.....can't see why they should discriminate against the older ones!

The old scheme required 30 full years payments for a full pension the new scheme requires 35 years for the higher full pension.

Whether you are eligible for the higher rate (if you have sufficient full years of contributions) is age-dependent:

- a man born on or after 6 April 1951
- a woman born on or after 6 April 1953

Women born in the mid fifties, who had been told they would get their state pension at sixty, had less than two years notice that the goal posts were being moved and their new pension age would be around sixty six. This despite the government and DWP office saying that no one would get less than ten years notice!
Yes there is always a cut off point, but these women have been left high and dry and might have planned differently had they known what they know now.

I know so unfair, the wife was 'lucky' she only had to wait 3 years after the age of 60 before she got her pension - also regarding the 'new' pensions amounts, we both have 35 years of contributions but fall just out of the year 'criteria' so are not eligible. I am sure these calculations are done by the number of people due to draw pensions......

How about thus fir a shocker...Although British law states bigamy is not allowed so no man can have more than one wife at a time
To my amazement benefits are paid to claimants who have more than one wife.... 100% true...just talking to someone who’s relative works for DWP in the UK... I know absolutely shocking and crazy..
However I am now wondering of those wives of one man..when they each reach pensionable age.. can they claim individual state pensions... is this fair ?????

I am confused ? What benefits are you talking about ? Is your pension entitlement in the UK not linked to having met certain thresholds in NI contributions ? Does a wife (single non bigamous) who has never paid any NI contribution get a normal state pension on retirement age regardless ?

I am not wishing to start an argument...but. for many years now people in the UK have been encouraged to take out private pensions, particularly good if you are fortunate enough to work for a company that will match, or better your contributions. I worked in the banking industry for almost 30 years, and it was always the case that the government pension pot has run out. Youngsters at work now who think they are paying into their future are not, they are just funding a failing system, due to the fact that people are living longer and so the pension pot is drained..... I am perfectly willing for someone to tell me I am wrong.... however, this is something that I have been aware of for many years.... hence the fact people are encouraged to build their own pot, you cannot rely on something that is not there...and the fact is your grandchildren are currently paying your pensions....Its a case of simple economics....

The basic position is that some benefits can be paid, in certain cases, in respect of more than one spouse. Rules enabling the payment of some benefits in respect of some polygamous marriages have been in force for some time; for example, in relation to Income Support, the current rules have applied since 1987.and will also be paid with the new universal credit...


Now.... it is questionable that pension credits may be applied each year to enable these polygamous marriages for all to receive a state pension... is this fair ?
Not only receiving benefits before state pension as clearly stated they can... but the chance they may when reaching retirement ??? Through Pension credit ??? Is this fair ?

I am one of those women fortunately I have a company pension but I could not imagine working until I was 66, I was already struggling and like many women in that age group looking after an elderly parent
only four years to go before they pay me my "benefit" that I paid into for 40+ years !

Niceone, I agree. I am one of that group too. There are a lot of women in that age range not as fortunate as us. I have a little less time than you to wait for my "Benefit."though. I think WASPI were funding a court case to the ECHR but that all seems to have gone quiet recently.

When I got my pension letter, many years ago now, I was delighted when I read the first page at the amount I would receive. Then I turned to page two, only to discover that as I was in receipt of a Civil Service pension, which I had worked for, that a similar amount to this pension would be deducted from my OAP. Thus I am not yet a millionaire.
