Re: airbnb
Sorry no, but I know people very well who have tried here and it was a disaster. They moved 4 times in 6 nights, the flats were dreadful.

Re: airbnb
I am a long standing member - as a host and a traveller - in the UK, Turkey, France, Belgium, Germany, and six other nations
As a traveller and non smoker - we found a place where the hosts smoked and it STANK - swiftly moved by airbnb - as a host - we've had one VERY messy couple - but other guest treat the place like home

Re: airbnb
As a concept I think they are great, but there were people in the centre or fairly close to the centre of Girne, just didn't "get" it. One stay ended just one night. Suppose to have had one double and one single bed, on arrival just one single bed. Another place turned out to be in student accommodation, they had to virtually padlock themselves in. Students thought it was great to be banging on doors at 2am so they could get together and have a drink or two.
The booking was for almost 3 months so obviously it needed to be somewhere half way decent.

Re: airbnb
My experience in UK with Airbnb bit of a hit or miss. Great place and very hospitable hosts in Hastings. Next experience not so good stayed in a converted attic in Oxford very damp and cold , hosts didn't even turn up. Its the luck of the draw.....

Re: airbnb
As someone who has not really had any need for holiday / temp accommodation in the last 16 years or so I have not used AirBnB . However is it not the case that reviews / ratings are given by people that have stayed there before (and that AirBnB know have paid to stay there) that reduce the 'hit and miss / luck of the draw' aspect considerably ? Were you not invited to review / rate the properties you stayed at after staying at them ?IPA wrote:....Airbnb bit of a hit or miss. ..... Its the luck of the draw.....

Re: airbnb
We considered using them as there was a place very near our family. As I wasn't sure of the exact dates, I looked several times at the same place, I even tentatively put in dates and then it happened, every time I looked again the price went up!
As it happened, the dates were not suitable, but I did have an email from the owner and I said that the dates did not work for us and then mentioned that I also noticed the price going up several times. She said, sorry but AirBnB do that and she had nothing to do with that!

Re: airbnb
Booked a flat in a big city in Germany for four weeks last year via Airbnb. Was exactly like photos and description showed, owner reduced the rent because of duration of stay and arranged for full free tv reception and very fast free wlan. No problems at all, in contrary.

Re: airbnb
As I said trueblue, some people (owners that is) don't seem to totally understand the concept of what is expected of them. I'd be interested to hearing from others who have tried renting from local people here.

Re: airbnb
Rather than looking at the reviews and ratings from people who already stayed in such properties that is on the airbnb site itself ? Do you not trust those rating / reviews ?sophie wrote:As I said trueblue, some people (owners that is) don't seem to totally understand the concept of what is expected of them. For example
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/2843069?lo ... s=Wj59M-JU
scroll down and see the comments and ratings from people who have stayed there before.

Re: airbnb
I have stayed in Todmorden West Yorkshire, excellent, Limmasol and recently Egypt. I always read the reviews before going and have been very lucky in my choices.
