Hi, more advice please. We were with HSBC and are now with Albank, but so far not overly impressed. Can anyone recommend a bank with English speaking staff and good reliable internet banking, preferably east of Kyrenia. Thanks in advance.

Try Capital Bank. There's a branch in Catalkoy on the opposite side of the road and a little further east from Erdeners. Certainly good English speakers, very attentive staff and high-interest rates. There is a website: capitalbank.com.tr with an English facility.

Creditwest by far the best, would steer clear of Near East. Creditwest has plenty of backing financially.

Creditwest loves BIG savers, if you don't fall into that category then try elsewhere if you even want to be talked to! Gave up with them after 10 years and moved on.

I would steer clear of Capital bank due to the background, I would also steer clear of Near East after a bad experience.

Credit west are excellent especially the Catalkoy staff but also TEB which is a large Turkish bank and part of BNP Paribas. Seran is excellent as is her english. Rates for saving accounts in TL are better than any bank here at the moment

The questions is do you trust TRNC banks often with little banking experience? Personally I prefer something international or at least Turkish. Garanti have English speaking staff and is part Spanish owned. Yes Capital may offer some ot the best rates around but with rate comes risk.
Some are wise and some otherwise.....

TEB have the best rates?
Is there anywhere you can compare them?

I would second TEB as being a 'good' bank & Seran the ex-pat representative is excellent at her job. However although I have not compared the rates I would doubt they are the best on offer here.

Enjoying the Sun: You have to ring around all the banks you feel safe to deposit your money in and see what they have to offer at that time. Some banks offer a 'welcome' rate to encourage you to join them and after the initial period their rates will drop so you just move your money once again to another bank.

Ozankoys: Normally I would agree with your statement but I have compared the rates and was surprised myself as the local banks do normally offer the best rate however having just completed another round of calls etc in the last 3 weeks I can assure you that Garanti and TEB are still offering the better rates compared to the local banks at the moment and have been for the last 6 months or so ......

One drawback with most banks here is often their credit card only works in trnc. Maybe the Turkish mainland banks credit cards work worldwide?
