Flying to Larnaca
First time ever flying via Larnaca, is it safe to put a North Cyprus address on my luggage?

Re: Flying to Larnaca
I would never put an address on my case wherever I was flying to, but would put a contact phone number inside the case. Nowadays very few cases go missing and I have read they can be traced online but don't know how true that is.

I wouldn’t either. The baggage handlers are bad enough as it is.

Re: Flying to Larnaca
Just came back from UK.
For the third time in succession, my suitcase was interfered with. First time, I just knew that someone had been in it because of the way I packed it and the way it was left.
Second time I put a padlock on it, this was smashed off
Third time was just 3 weeks ago and I packed my case with 2" thick foam all around the top where fingers might get in. This was pushed to one side but fortunately only clothes were in it.
Next time I will pay for the shrink wrapping on my case. I thought it was a nutty idea when I first saw it, now I am convinced that it is the only way to keep your stuff safe.

I hope you reported these events so CCTV can be viewed. Incidentally, which airports did you fly from/to please?suehowlittle wrote:Just came back from UK.

Who did you travel with please, I put labels on but details are hidden & always those small padlocks & a strap with another lock. Maybe to much to deal with quickly........

I had a TSA lock smashed off last time I flew out from Larnaca, customs are supposed to have the keys for them. Nothing taken but did make me wonder who did it.

I do not put on padlocks, I use cable ties, then if the customs or security need to check they can cut the cable tie. Doing it this way it can avoid damage to your lock and baggage and you can tell if anyone has been in your baggage. I think if customs or security hae been in, they leave a notice, so you know if it was a valid reason, if not you must report it to the airline.

When we travelled recently, we noticed a lot of people didn't pay for the shrink wrap, but actually took along a roll of cling film and wrapped their cases with that before checking in, I must admit we never pack anything valuable in our cases, it goes in hand luggage.

I must be very lucky then, I travel through Larnaca at least twice a year, both ways, and have never had any problem with tampering. Mind you, never anything valuable in there, and the case does look like it's been around the block a few times.
